Toss Dhoni has won the toss and chosen to bat first. "We don't want to look at the past game. We just want to bat positively, and give the bowlers a par-plus total to defend."

Ganguly, wearing a purple cap without having taken a wicket, says he would have bowled first anyway. "It's a firm wicket, will stay the same throughout the 40 overs."

7.25pm It's India's most successful successful captain versus the man who can become India's most successful captain. Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni are the opposing captains in the eighth match of the IPL. Big news is that Shane Bond walks straight into the Kolkata side, replacing Charl Langeveldt who has a glute injury, and Laxmi Shukla replaces Cheteshwar Pujara. Chennai have made one change, bringing in Manpreet Gony for Sudeep Tyagi. Toss in five minutes

I have watched Raina go yet again not quite coming to the pitch of the ball.

Raina along with Rohit and few others always toggle between shades of brilliance in 20-20 with vast portions of mediocrity.

At this rate they will never be good Test players that is the ultimate form of the game not this exhibition variety 20-20 which gives instant gratification and nothing more.  Don't get fooled by the money and the popularity of the 20-20 game.  It is not real cricket I don't care what you say.  No way.

I am not sure what these guys are up to.  They will never be called great batsman no matter how many runs they score in 20-20 and at whatever the strike rate.

Badri on the other hand showed some nice technique handling those almost 150kmph balls from Bond this over.

Now Badri should get out if he cannot hit 4's each ball.

Leave it to Kemp and Morkel.

WOW.  What a flat six by MSD.

50 in quick time there for the skipper.

So much for Bond being effective.   Taken to the cleaners by MSD in that over.  But in 20-20 that happens to all bowlers.

What a classical six there by Badri off Ishant.  Huge six over square leg.

Poor effort by SG there.  A better fielder would have saved the boundary.

CSK 25 runs short of a competitive target. You can expect the opposition to score 190 most of the time.

First real Test for KKR here.

They did not perhaps expect to chase more than 140 here after those early inroads.

But Dhoni changed it all.

Big hits, great running and clever placements.

Badri showed his class there with some nice cricketing shots and getting the job done.  Good for him.

Let us see if KKR can chase 165 here and show they can overcome a little bit of an adversity and roll along.

That is what you get if you are son of a SMG and playing for a Indian based captain like Ganguly.  I seriously doubt if a Gilly or a Warne would ever entertain that.

Tiwary shows bad technique.

Middle stump knocked out by Gony.

8-2.

Saha getting the runs.

Some lucky 4's and a good boundary the last one.

Harsha made a very pertinent point about Murali Karthik... a classical left arm spinner who doesnt  bend his arm or who doesnt possess doosra

MK has been a very consistent performer for KKR.. meanwhile SG is unable to pierce the offside field

Another lucky boundary there for Saha.  Almost gone.  But they all count and that is all what matters.

A nice boundary now from Saha and then gets out.

A lucky not so convincing innings comes to an end for Saha.

KKR in a spot of bother now at 34-3.

Ganguly falls.  Picks the fielder in the deep.

Bad innings. 11 of 20 balls is a blasphemy in this format.

But wickets falling from the other end he had no choice but to wait, but still 11 of 20 is slow.

Dhoni spills a catch off Kemp.

Looks like he is injured or had an injury while batting and it is showing in his  wicket keeping.

Angelo Mathews gets cheeky and sent on his way back to the pavilion by the umpire LBW.

69-6 and done and dusted are the KKR.

No doubt abt that.....I think the late onslaught by Dhoni did the trick.
