If MSD can pull this one off, I will bow him as a freater captain then SG just based on this match.
This test is a real show for team Ind and i am excited it ended with three untested players. Show why the processes are important.

Disgraceful.
They should stop playing tests at such centers.. Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai would have had the crowds.

Shastri said that these days the chances of pre-match injury are higher due to kabbadi, khoko, frisbee. Then he says something like:
One wonders if these things are necessary.
It seemed he was saying that these things are not worth the risk of pre-match injury. That sounds like a rather surprising comment to me. How many have fallen to pre-match injuries due to these activities?

The point about Laxman is quite obvious. If he was unfit, it was insane to keep him in a squad of 14.

That was a great move ... as the batsman turns the ball and Kallis comes down the track. Sends the ball back to the stumps though he misses. And there was backup too!

The way that Harbhajan's last delivery turned, it can be an unpredictable pitch in the later part of the game.

It is not the best time to introduce Bhajji into the game. But he is a confidence bowler........and I am sure, he will make a difference at the later stage of the game.

@ DD.....

I haven't been there for a long time, but I am aware that there are many good hotels in Kolkata....for a variety of budget.
You have to decide first, where you want to stay and what's your budget.....then ppl can come out with some suggestions.

5 bucks a day is the budget he has as the hotel allowance per day.  ppl can now come up with some suggestions without any doubts now that the budget part is made clear and out in the open.

No that is not true.  VVS's was an external injury which was a cut on the finger and at the time of selecting the team it appeared he would be fine.  He was real close to playing here as per the reports plus he had a cover up in RS who himself was injured.  Now where they goofed up with the selection of the team was in a 15 man team they had no back up batsman to begin with.  It is being speculated that Krish Srikanth made sure that Badri was not left out of the XI this time by not selecting the extra batsman thus forcing Dhoni to play him.   One may recall Badri was left out quite a few times in favor of other batsman in both forms of the game under Dhoni.   This in a way ensured that will not happen.   So the stupid selection piece was not selecting an extra batsman to begin with.

Not bad.
I am sure, he will get quite a few hotels in that budget.
Now the preferred location..?
Near Eden Gardens.........within walking distance, there are The Grand Hotel( Oberoi group), The Peerless Inn(the Peerless group... on the Chowringhee road.
.......the Park Hotel( on Park Street)
But the above hotels are not exactly your 5 bucks hotel.

there are a few low budget hotel on the Sudder Street...just adjacent to the National Museum ( the largest in India).......usually thronged by the foreigners...the Salvation Army guest house is the popular one.
There is the Great Eastern Hotel, in Dalhousie( walking distance from EG)................not sure, how it is doing now.................it had some Union issues.

The Free School Street has some hotels.....which range from seedy to decent.........this is within walking distance of EG. The place is infamous for the usual thing, but also famous for LP record collectors.

Slightly further away on the Theatre Road ( Shakespeare Sarani), you have the Aster Hotel( near the Nagaland House), which is quite reasonable.

Even if that were true, is that good enough. I don't think so.

And if they were that desperate to play VVS, they should certainly have more men in the squad. It is ironic that this happened to the cover, but an equally probable possibility was something happening to another batsman like SRT/Dhoni.
