If you are planning to stay near the Eden Gardens, you'll be staying in the Chowringhee/ Esplanade/ Park Street area, most probably.
There are enough food joints all around these places, to cater to your taste.
If you are looking for South Indian food, you will get the best of them near this place.
This area, is known as the heart of Kolkata..........more like the traditional business district.

My favorite joint on the Park Street is the newly renovated Flury's...........I really enjoy the capuccino here( whenever I visit Kolkata) in company of my family or friends......with Paul Mullick playing the saxophone( Golden 60s)................this is the best of modern and traditional Kolkata, according to me.
I am sure, you will enjoy this. Flury's is not the typical Barista-style coffee-joint mind you...............this is slightly more traditional and yet quite trendy. Ofcourse, you'll get the best collection of cakes and pastries here too.
Park Street is a nice place to be around in the evenings..........nice book-shops/ music stores etc. But on the caution side, this is also a pick-up point for the 'experts'. :D
If you want to miss the Test match for a day......you can visit the National Museum ( spellbinding experience)..........the 2nd Hooghly bridge and the Victoria Memorial hall...........all very nearby.

If you are into classical music and drama, or some experimental movie stuff, the right places are around within your reach.
I have avoided mentioning the typical shopping malls/discotheques, which are quite ubiquitous.

ps- also, please do a google search on Nightlife in Kolkata, and you may get the latest. My knowledge can be rather dated.

Dhoni is selfish. Given the selection goof up and the forced playing of Saha, he should have let Saha keep and played this test as a regular batsman.

Well, if he had given him the opportunity to stand behind the stumps we'd have a better chance of knowing if he has what it takes at this level. He ought not to have been selected if he wasn't a good wicketkeeper. Morever Dhoni plays all 3 forms of the game and can do with a small break from keeping.

that is not  being questioned at all, the premise is that if he was selected as a specialist keeper then might as well get him to do that, if both were on field, they could even have taken turns etc but to select him and not use him is quite a waste.

i don't follow your logics at all. dhoni is the better keeper, saha is the backup. saha was selected in the squad to play, in case dhoni was injured. however, he's lucky to be playing as there were no other batsmen in the squad. so, why in the world would he be keeping wickets? test cricket isn't charity; the best player plays in the position.

how the hell is that pachyderm Kallis bowling at 143kmph, while our 'fast bowlers', Ishant and Zak never seem to hit the mid 130's?

the problem/ solution is in the diet.
Kallis takes rump-steak  and beef chops for breakfast..............whereas our guys take dosa/ idli. How can you compare! :D

innings defeat is now possible. though sehwag has another inning left :D

i like badri's application here but he seems nervous to me

i dont want to see the score until it's like 350 or 400 for 5

badri is loving 3rd man

Morkel to Badrinath, FOUR!!, Badrinath looses his concentration and goes for a booming drive, gets a thick outside edge as it runs down to third man, he should be more watchful here

morkel is an excellent move - most likely to trouble donny

Specialist batsman Saha bowled for zero!
Now he would know the difference between Test cricket and other first class matches. :(

India is still bad against good fast bowling.
Nothing much has changed...................only some exceptions here and there.

right - another blind generalization based on one match or inning.

a few years ago it was spin, so actually we are just plain bad  ;D

we are still an excellent team, maybe dravid and laxman and a form batsman (not saha) count for something in the batting lineup, that is all.
