i heard the majority of games are rigged.

and how can it be called a sport when the key differentiating factor between contestants is the level of gluttony

thanks for the replies, guys!

i think there is some rigging in sumo but the same can be said for all sports, can't it? and the fattest guy doesn't always win though that's a common misconception. in recent years they let in a whole lot of foreigners which is more and more giving sumo an international fan base, hence my post here. however one of the two yokozuna just retired, or was forced to. he was a mongoloid so that country is pretty pissed orf at the moment. konishiki won a few tournaments but never made yokozuna, in the end i think he got so fat he could hardly more and the other guy just had to move out the way while he fell over. chiyonofuji was surely the best.

Each one seems to blame the other.

Here is a nice blog on our favorite Chiyonofuji...

Face to Face with a Legend: My Chiyonofuji Story
06 June 2001

I have a story to tell you. It's about this rikishi, a sumo guy named Chiyonofuji. For us die-hard fans, he was the greatest sumo guy to walk the face of the earth. I mean, the greatest ever. He won 31 championships and 1,045 wins in the top division, and 53 continuous wins in a row. He's considered a living legend, and is currently heading a sumo stable called Kokonoe-beya. Despite the fact that he retired long before I came to Japan, I've managed to see videos of the guy and read about him in books and magazines. .................

Yes, the greatest that I have ever seen. However, Kaio has been remarkable despite never being a "grand champion." Hard to believe they thought Chiyonofuji was gay at one point in his career.
