Parts of Bangalore city, which were swept by violence on Thursday, are now calm.

Seven civilians and a police constable Manjunath Malladi died in clashes after popular Kannada actor Rajkumar died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday.

The 77-year-old actor, who had starred in more than 200 films, was buried with state honours on Thursday.

Fans complained that sufficient arrangements were not made at the stadium for people to pay their last respects to the revered actor.

Violence broke out near the stadium and along the route of the funeral procession. The police were outnumbered by the fans who chased and beat them, causing injuries to more than 180 of them.

Five civilians were also hit by the police fire and 60 others suffered injuries. State-run buses were also set ablaze.

Tragic loss

Malladi, 25, was beaten to death by the mobs in Thursday's violence. A B Com, LLB graduate, he was a young, industrious and meritorious cop in Bangalore's police force.

"We are extremely sorry about it. It's very sad that the young boy's life has come to an end so soon," said Ajay Kumar Singh, Police Commissioner, Bangalore.

Nine civilians are still in hospital, five of them with bullet injuries.

So far 563 persons have been arrested and 41 cases registered against those who indulged in destruction of property, public and private vehicles and attacked people.

"The loss is yet to be assessed, but I think it should be realistically between Rs 2-3 crore and even more than that," added Singh.

The police are also investigating reports that trucks carrying boulders were brought in to systematically attack the police, media and others.

What was the real reason this started and further more continued ?
Is this just for - sufficient arrangements  to pay their last respects to the revered actor

lol, madness in bangalore look at the dg before you look farther, people abusing different parts of india and that we are fighting being in a country like america where people of all races are respected makes it so much more unfortuante.

I do not follow your points exactly. If by any chance you assumed that this thread was posted to attack Bangalore, you are mistaken.  These things can happen anywhere in India. That is why the statement, "when will we learn?" was added.

And also, people of all races are respected in America? By law,yes. In India too. But that does not mean that in practice, it is too...

Bouncer, actually my post wasn't of relevance to this thread. All this regional banter is saddeing me and the promise that was provoked in me by Rang De Basant seems to have vanished in thin air.

Rajkumar's fans were not responsible for the violence, Kumaraswamy asserted at a press conference in Bangalore, as the city returned to normal a day after witnessing an orgy of violence that claimed six lives in police firing and that of a
constable in mob violence. Another person was killed in a stampede near the funeral venue.

Confirming that eight persons had been killed, the chief minister said 235 persons were injured in the violence.

"The incident is not a black spot on the image of the government. There are several things I know, which I do not want to discuss in public," Kumaraswamy said, refusing to name the forces the administration had identified as responsible for inciting violence.

I am not quite sure of India. To me all this talk of India being secular and blah blah is just limited to the metros. In the US I haven't being hated upon for being from a particular nationality. I have developed respect for Muslims, something I lacked back in India. Perhaps you might be referring to the case of illegal immigrants which according to me is more of an economic issue.

this is a idiotic statement from kumaraswamy..what kinda BS is this, 'I know but I do not want to discuss in public'?
A tragic incident happened, a young cop lost his life, there is loss to public property, he wants to make a idiotic statement like 'Iwon't tell ya' ? It is his responsibility to share all the information with public and to make sure the guilty is punished.
