Punter is the second, there was another one earlier but I think that was way back in the 1930's or so.

Surely after this Punter cannot stay on as captain? he sure did not inspire with his leadership at all during this series or for that matter has not been impressive for quite sometimes since he has lost his stars.

Then how did he manage to beat a full strength SA team in SA after losing to them at home 2 months earlier without these so called stars.  I do not think Ponting needs to be replaced unless he wants to step down.

Well the SAF victory was wonderful but did you notice that most of the gang that played in SAF did not get a look in here? dunno why the Aussie think tank did that....

But that SAF victory notwithstanding I don't think Punter has done such a great job as compared to say a Mark Taylor or Steve Waugh.

i agree. if i had to rand the australian captains, the last 3 at least it would be Ponting, Waigh and then taylor. the reason is that there was a tie whe the team was carrying taylor. the other two did not have that. I also rate Ponting as better then waugh purely because of the teams ponting lead. Waugh had the likes of Mcgrath, Warne, langer, Hayden, Gilchrist and ponting. Ponting made do without a lot of them. I think it is great that he managed to win in SA. i also think they lost this series because of poor batting rather then poor captaincy. As a batter he is responsible but as a captain not so much. i am happy they lost nonetheless!
