Flintoff in anti-immigration outburst


No stranger to controversies, Andrew Flintoff [ Images ] has made some stunning anti-immigration statements which may land the England [ Images ] all-rounder in fresh trouble with cricket authorities and his potential sponsors.

In an interview to GQ magazine, Flintoff blamed rap music for rising violence and said countries should be careful while promoting multi-cultural societies.

"I have no problems with a multicultural society, I think that is to the benefit of the country. But you have to be careful what levels you take it to," Flintoff said.

"It annoys me when I phone a hotel receptionist in my own country and they don't understand what I am saying because they don't speak English," he added.

The 31-year-old father of three also blamed rap music for the rising violence in the society.

"I see Manchester on a Friday night and I would be horrified seeing my daughter going to the bars," Flintoff said.

"There are places I wouldn't go to now. You see these reports of stabbings, bottlings, shootings, and you think: 'What is happening to this country?' "I think rap music has a lot to do with it. It makes it sound cool not to conform, and to be violent. That's why I think that sport plays such an important role," he added.

DD: I like Flintoff.   Seems to be a genuine and a nice guy.

But when I dissect some of his quotes here there is a definite truth to it.

I live in a white neighbour hood here in the U.S. and the adjacent suburb or city is pretty much Spanish area and there is a lot of crime there.  I would not want my kids to hang out in that area and get in the way of an in advertant bullet.  Again I know there are a lot of socioeconomic factors that drive this but Flintoff as an individual is expressing pretty much like any one of the citizens would in what they see around and be a little selfish to themselves.  That is natural.

Also to his credit he made it clear he is all for multicultural society.  These things are very complex in nature for one to discuss and come to a definitive conclusion. But I can definitely corelate to some of the things what Flintoff is saying here.

whats so terribly wrong in what he is saying? he clearly states that he ist against immigration , just that people should atleast speak the language of the land. whats wrong with that? if you itend staying for life in spain wouldnt you want to learn spanish? As for Rap music i do think that it is violent. well atleast gangster rap is violent. I like all sorts of music. even gangster rap. but i can see how a 13 year old might want to emulate what he/she hears. if it is made out to be that smoking chronic or pooping a cap in someones ass is the cool thing to do wouldnt kids want to do it? I agree that better parenting can help but eventually there has to be a degree of responsibility for record companies too.
