Roland Garros 2009
« on: May 30, 2009, 05:24:42 PM »
Nadal on course to meet his clone in the Quarters - could be best match of French this year.

Fedrer seems to have an easier road to the finals than Nadal, who has to beat Verdasco and Murray/Gonzalez to get to finals, while Fedrer possibly has only Del Potro to beat....

Fernando Verdasco - from Spain and lefty too and his game is literal carbon copy of Nadal.

Both played a marathon match in the Aussie Open Semis earlier this year.

Barring a few no one really cares about Tennis in U.S..  It is all about ratings and even local rodeo shows and 'X' games have higher ratings than Tennis.   I live in New York City area and majority mistake U.S. Open during August for Golf and when you insist you are talking about Tennis they give you a strange look.

Soderling played a superb game to beat Nadal !!!

This is Fedrer's best and probably last chance to win the French !!

nope, nadal's draw. I think Soderling will be in the finals - he's playing like a psycho.

With Davydenko vs. Verdasco, I guess this was expected to be the closest 4th round game to call. 8 vs. 10 seed anyways. I expect Verdasco to bounce back from 2 sets down and win in 5 ;)

Well, great play by Soderling and even Davidenko. I agree with the above comment that if Federer does not make it this time he will never again. Watch out for Tsonga, Soderling, Kohlhaas and the dark horse - Andy Murray.

Very interesting match...Soderling was having a great day and that was going to be essential if he wanted to win against Nadal. I don't remember watching him play before but it seemed like he would really flatten out his shots and Nadal did not enjoy it. I have not seen players hit the ball so flat at Roland Garros throughout a match and have success...this guy must be pretty strong in the upper body to pull it off over for 4 sets against Nadal.

what else would you do, if after seeing your only threat to unrivalled glory being packed away early from the tournament, you go down 2 sets and have to do magic to get out of it

i don't think its easy. He is going to face winner of Monfils/Roddick and then Tsonga/del potro and then possibly Murray.

He will struggle against Monfils and if he gets through , Tsonga/del potro is also a very tough opponent. If Murray makes it to the final , he has a better record against Fed, though Fed has bet him in a GS final..

As I mentioned much earlier, Del Potro is the only threat to Fedrer winning the French. I don't think Murray will get past Davy/Soderling. Fedrer will take care of Monfils/Roddick with reasonable ease.

Fedrer was probably just 5 points away from being ousted out of the French Open, 2 sets to love down, 3-4 down and 30-40 down !!!
