Is Dhoni injury alrite? The Dhoni shot!!!
« on: April 03, 2006, 05:16:53 PM »
Dhoni seemed to have shoulder dislocation or pain? Is he alrite?
Could that be a reason for Uthappa to come in?

This picture does not give a clear idea of how Dhoni hit this unimaginable shot that fetched him 6 runs. The ball was fuller and Dhoni just rotated his arms 360 + 90 degrees and got 6 runs. But the power in the shot was such that the follow through disbalanced him. It is difficult to describe the shot but I will give it a try (for the benefit of those who may not have been previliged to watch it live).

Close your eyes and imagine Tiger Woods hiting his perfect drive, complete with all his poise and balance. Now remove the poise and balance from it. Or better still, imagine Sehwag coming on the ground to bat. What does he do? He switches the bat in both arm and vigorously rotates the arm holding the bat, to start the blood flow in the muscles and warm them up. The Dhoni shot was kind of a replica of how Sehwag warms up. The ball was full and in front of his legs and Dhoni waited and just rotated his arm like Sehwag or Tiger Woods does (take your pick). The follow through was more intriguing. Instead of the bat going behind his neck, his bat came in front of his face to complete the rotation of arms. The rotation was completed when the bat came down in front of his feet but the power was such that his bat went up to his face again to start the next rotation. Every one was amused at the shot, the commentrators, the spectators and Dhoni himself as he was giving a toothy smile to the bowler. The bowler, however, was not amused and went back to his run-up scowling.

After Marrilier shot, this one should be in the coaching books as "The Dhoni Shot", that is if any coach can teach it to his pupils.

dont think even Dhoni will be able to repeat it. A cousin and I were watching the game and we both, in the wee hrs of the morning were rudely awakened by the sheer grossness of this shot

The shoulder pain was because he was struck on the shoulder by a HS delivery that bounced a lot

Strange shot, alright.

I think Dhoni was actually early into the shot and instead of a proper follow through with the bat he jerked his bat to the side  right after he made contact with the ball. A proper follow through probably would he have resulted in a skier.
