I have got news that former wicket-keeper Vijay Yadav and family is seriously injured in a road accident. I don't have confirmed news, but NDTV showed this. Can anyone confirm this? Vijay Yadav, was instrumental in one of India's rare victory in ODI against Soth Africa, in East London in 1992.

Very sad news.

No one seriously monitors deaths from inter-city travel in India.

From personal experience, I can tell you that the risk of traveling between two cities in India by car is extremely high. I was involved in a terrible accident close to Bangalore, and fortunately no one died though the injuries were quite serious. Ever since, I've been noticing the number of people who have died in such accidents and it is quite chilling. I can easily recount direct friends of mine who have lost family in such accidents and I am sure that is no exception.

I would say there is as much risk in driving in a car between two Indian cities as there is in riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

Sorry to know about this. Wasn't he the curator for the Faridabad pitch where the last ODI was played?

Right you are..
I know so many cases that its absolutely horrendous. People seriously underestimate the risk in driving in India.

Were these folks wearing seatbelts ?  How common is it to wear seat belts?

To be honest it is very common for people to get involved in car crashes in India but not in anyway more common than anywhere else in the world. What is uncommon though is the appalling lack of support and medical infrastructure anywhere. Then there is the whole nonsense about cops and files etc.

A friend of mine was involved in a accident and I had to pay the cops (four of them Rs 500 each) to lift him and put him in a ambulance and let us go to the hospital.

Seat belts are getting common now but then I dont know how many people really enforce these rules.
