Munaf Patel
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:28:33 PM »
Am I the only fan of this guy on this forum?

I have really liked his talent from his debut, and was happy that Dhoni chose him for the tests in NZ where he delivered, after he was soundly castigated for his profligacy in the ODIs. My biggest grouse with him is sustained fitness.

there are at least 3 other bowlers who are better than him.. and dont carry the baggage of his non-chalance and lack of brains.

just bc someone is non-chalant, like gayle, does not mean they're not competetive

He bowled splendidly against the wind in Hamilton, and supported Zaheer better than "Little John who scores" in the test. He is almost 26, and has years ahead. I am glad Dhoni backed him.

certainly a fit SreeSanth is better than him and little John in all the countries. Even RP singh is better than him when conditions suits the bowler

if he has to bowl wicket to wicket block one end bowl maidens build the pressure he can do the job. but if it comes to running through an order im not sure.

Munna Patel is a bowler that I don't like all that much, but then again after watching him give it his all yesterday I felt that he is one bowler who will respond to his captains faith in him and probably explicit instructions on what exactly has to be done.

There is the Gayle "I will kick your ass" non-chalance and there is Munaf "I dont care" non-chalance. Huge difference

I agree with Gourav.

He can be a containing bowler ..hold one end up. I doubt he can run through a batting order - he did seem to have that ability when he came into the side. But, these days he seems to be focusing more on keeping the batsmen quiet.

I would take Sreesanth ahead of him any time.

My order of bowlers for tests: Zaheer, Ishant, Sreesanth, Munaf, R P Singh. Honourable mention: Irfan Pathan, if played as a fifth bowler and sixth batsman.

Sachin Tendulkar gave the muhurat clap for 'Awwal Number' - that apart, he hasn't done much wrong in the last 20 yrs!

yup. when it comes to bowling it is hard to come up with an absolute ranking. becoz at different times you might be looking for different skills. most times you want the bowlers who can take wickets the most but at times you also look for someone to bottle one end up.
