hum log writer dead
« on: April 01, 2006, 04:49:35 AM »
Manohar Shyam Joshi redefined the world of Indian television when he penned its first soaps, Hum Log and Buniyaad.

Joshi, who also scripted Appu Raja and Hey! Ram, passed away in New Delhi today.

Describing the impact of these serials, P N Vasanti, Centre for Media Studies, said, 'People identified themselves very closely with the characters (of these two serials). It was like (watching) your own family on the small screen.'

Ramesh Sippy, who directed Buniyaad, said, 'Writers like Manohar Shyam Joshi and Salim-Javed are not born often.'

Pay your tribute to the man who changed the future of Indian television

Yes, he was a fine writer and the things he wrote for TV were down to earth, intelligent and sensible. Not to mention path-breaking. My tributes.
