SDCA out to hunt for the next Munaf Patel

SURAT: Munaf Patel's sparkling debut in the second test match at Mohali, seems to have had its impact on the Surat District Cricket Association (SDCA) as well.

The cricket body is soon to embark on a talent hunt to identify potential Munaf Patels, across the district. The SDCA is confident that the talent hunt will help in identifying budding young cricketers in various villages of the district as a part of the talent hunt.

Hanif Patel, Secretary, SDCA, informed that the talent hunt will begin during the summer vacation and there will be extra effort to tap fast bowlers. "Munaf has played many matches in Surat and we have observed his style.

We will travel to the interiors like Olpad, Uchal and Nizar for we believe we can find many cricketers with potential there," added Patel.

The association has also chalked out plan for all those players who will be selected and trained at the SDCA cricket academy. Hanif Patel said that the SDCA is in talks with a specialised bowling coach to train these raw talents....

"We are in the process of signing a fast bowler, Bhavik Patel, who will help us identify the speedsters and train them at the academy," Patel added.

Bhavik Patel who has played nearly 25 Ranji matches for the state and has studied fast bowling at the MRF pace academy, is quite hopeful of churning out good bowlers.

"These bowlers from the interior areas carry a lot of power and they can bowl a good pace. Therefore, after rectifying technical faults, I intend to concentrate on teaching them about the art of swinging and seaming the ball thereby making them swing bowlers who can bowl really fast," said Patel.
