Mike Hussey not to play in IPL
« on: April 03, 2009, 04:17:32 AM »
Did not find this in the breaking news  ???

Chennai Superkings would not be able to avail the services of Michael Hussey for the second season of the Indian Premier League. Hussey joined the list of Aussie cricketers who have opted out of the Twenty20 tournament.

Mike Hussey opted out of the IPL in order to re-work on his lost form ahead of the Ashes. Hussey had been going through a rough patch lately, managing to reach a score of 50 only once in his last six test appearances.

Hussey had played four games for the Chennai team during the first season of IPL and was amongst the top run getters averaging 84. He also had posted a score of 116 in 54 balls which happens to be the third highest score in the tournament.

The Aussie also mentioned that he would be not be playing the ODI series against Pakistan to be held at the United Arab Emirates. Hussey said that he wanted to replenish his lost energies and be completely fit to compete against the English team in the Ashes.

Mitchell Johnson, Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting are the other Australians who would be giving IPL a miss.

Bloody cheating wussies, if you dont intend honouring contracts yet are willing to stretch your hand out when the money is attractive... this is classical opportunism.

I have no great love for this caper called IPL but the principle of it is that you sign a contract you honour it.

I wish you had expressed the same sentiments when Ponting decided to drop out to the disadvantage of KKR. :D

I wish, Symonds decides to drop-out of the tournament too............that will bring most of these terams on even keel.

I agree.. if Symonds was not around, teams can actually play cricket and not display boorish behaviour

Clarke had backed out of the auction fearing a lower than expected price offer

I don't see what is the big deal. I'm sure there are penalty clauses for late withdrawals which will be applicable. In any case, that is between the franchises/BCCI and the players. Its not as if Hussey is going to pocket money without playing.  And to be fair, Aussies have been playing non-stop since Oct, i.e., ~6 months. Plus they have a 5-test match Ashes coming up.

I am glad to hear and read the great Symonds is back to the fold.  Hope things will turn around for him.  This guy has played himself to be the best ODI and 20-20 player in the world before he got into trouble.  IPL will hopefully be a launching pad for him to resurrect and carry on tormenting the opponents with his brilliance on the field and with the bat.  Are you kidding me.  This guy was a vital cog in winning the last couple of world cups for the Aussies. :)

Me niether.  On the other hand I really credit Hussey for foregoing the money in turn to work on his game and get ready for the Ashes and other engagements.  He fully understands as things stand he will not be able to help the Chennai superkings nor himself.  How may people in today's world do that?  In a day and age when people hide injuries to keep playing even if it means costing the team for their gains Hussey's call needs to be admired and revered.

You have to give it to the Aussies for being professional and honest to themselves and their clients.  Hussey has grown in many people's eyes with this move.  Well done Mike Hussey. :)

Symonds is most likely to be picked for Aussie ODI side for 5 ODIs vs. Pak. So, he'll miss at last half of DC games, if not more. That series is from April 22 to May 7.

This also means that BRC will not Bracken for 8-9 games.

I get the feeling that the penalties were not high enough.  If that was the case it was the fault of the IPL or the teams that they did not make the contracts that way. I am guessing they would have learned the lesson this year and use it for future contracts.

how ticked off would symonds be? THey dont pick him for the longest time and then when he can earn a million bucks he gets selected for a meaningless series in the middle east.

Monkey, Watson, Lee, and Marsh are back in the ODIs - looks like Aussie selectors have managed to pick the remaining active Aussies playing in the IPL  :D :D

Australia squad Michael Clarke (capt), Brad Haddin (wk), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Brett Geeves, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Ben Laughlin, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson.

Agree. You get paid only if you pay. Even when players are not around for the entire season, they get paid on a pro-rata basis. That is why a team is allowed to pick upto 10 international players when only 4 can play in the XI.

If CSK feels that having Hussey on board is not allowing them to buy another guy, they can always put him up for transfer.

No big deal.
