Voted someone else ...I think the Congress has the edge on numbers now ...but Manmohan may not throw his hat in the ring on account of health issues ...that may pave the way for Pranab Mukherjee

However, the probability of the third front coming through is increasing by the day ..if their stars are aligned they may have enough seats to pull it off ...BJD has joined them, NCP could join in case the numbers come up and Sharad Pawar is given enough incentive (may also be the PM's post) ..ditto for Nitish Kumar / Laloo from Bihar.

WN, I think you should add Chidambaram to the list. I think he is a dark horse and might end up being congress PM. It did be awsome if he makes it. He is smart, he is intelligent and he is from south :) ( I find people from south more rational and smart when dealing with kashmir and pak..I think people from north especially UP & punjab go to extremes and are overly emotional may be because of the historical connections).

I voted for MMS. But I do think the idea of having Chidambaram as PM is intriguing. He is young and smart and he can correct the bad image that the other South Indian PM created..Mr.DG the Sleeper.

god save India if that happens..he is too kaccha, too inexperienced and did not display any vision or ideas or capabilities to be offered or considered for such a job..
I can opt for a NDA govt. if someone can guarantee there did be no more gujarat style pogroms or orissa style killings..but at the moment BJP seems to be totally bereft of ideas and vision, not even school kids will come up with a term like  'muscular foreign policy", what is it, wrestling match?

No. I did not forget, especially since he started liberalizing the industry and helped create the future MMS and Chidambaram at the national level. But his achievements were tarnished by Mr.DG and it will take someone again to improve the image.

I dont think that will happen. If the Congress does make it and Manmohan Singh is not willing, the odds are heavily stacjked in favour of Pranab Mukherjee.

Exactly.. at this point I think both Congress and BJP will have a lower seat count, by themselves. So their position within their alliances will be weaker ..while neither alliance will get a majority. The days of Charan singh like 15-30 day PMship may come back...with a variety of third front PMs supported from the "outside" by UPA or NDA.

The alliances are falling apart.. Lalu ditches congress but not the UPA ;D
--
No change in Bihar alliance formula: Lalu
21 Mar 2009, 1853 hrs IST, IANS

NEW DELHI: Unmoved by the Congress declaring it would go it alone in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Saturday asserted that he would stick to the alliance firmed up with the Lok Janshakti Party for the state.

Hours after the Congress announced that it would fight 37 of the state's 40 seats, RJD chief Lalu Prasad said: "We will give only three seats to the Congress and there will be no reconsideration on this."

Yadav told reporters: "If the Congress wants to field its candidates they can, but (Congress chief) Sonia *hi will realize the importance of the RJD after the elections."

The Congress move came after the RJD and Ram Vilas Paswan of LJP earlier in the week unilaterally decided the alliance formula for Bihar, leaving just three seats for the Congress.

Hitting out at the Congress, Lalu Prasad said: "If you (Congress) were so strong, why did you ask us for seats? We would have come to you, instead of the other way around."

He added: "We are the part and parcel of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and we will not criticize the Congress during the campaigning in Bihar. I respect Sonia *hi but she is under pressure from party leaders from Bihar."

In 2004, Congress won 145 seats and BJP 138.

29 of those 145 seats were from AP where it had its biggest gain of +24 at the expense of TDP. IMO, AP will spit 3 ways and Congress will lose at least 14-15 seats on its own. I do not see Congress making this up in other state where it has a chance - say Rajasthan, Maharasthra, Delhi or perhaps Punjab.

Similarly, BJP will lose seats in Rajasthan while maintaining its hold on MP, Chattisgarh while gaining some seats in K'taka. Net they may lose a few seats.

Clearly, the alliance dynamics will determine this. Already Pawar, Lalu are making noises in UPA and TDP & BJD have left the NDA. So not only are the big parties weaker, their alliances appear to be too.

All in all, we are heading for a mess.. barring something dramatic. Maybe a congress surge in WB!!

The latest Nielsen poll shows the UPA getting 254 seats - includes SP, LJD & NCP. I wonder whether they factored in that these guys, though they may come together after the polls, will be contesting against each other as well.

I think the time for the Third Front is now. If they are not able to come through in this situation, they will never ever get there.

I think in this scenario anyone with 25-30 seats would jockey for the PM post.

I am not wishing for them to succeed. But you just cannot rule them out. My sense is that most people are just talking about it but still do not seriously consider it to be a possibility.

God no. but you know if Mayawati becomes PM at least SOMEONE will be happy (victory for the poor, oppressed whatever - regardless of how useless she will be to them).

if fkn deve gowda or someone becomes PM no one wins

Actually I would not mind Chandrababu as PM in such a scenario.. but his best case  is 15 seats in AP.

I think the time for the Third Front is now. If they are not able to come through in this situation, they will never ever get there.
I hope you are not wishing for them to succeed.

I think in this scenario anyone with 25-30 seats would jockey for the PM post.

God no. but you know if Mayawati becomes PM at least SOMEONE will be happy (victory for the poor, oppressed whatever - regardless of how useless she will be to them).

if fkn deve gowda or someone becomes PM no one wins
Actually I would not mind Chandrababu as PM in such a scenario.. but his best case  is 15 seats in AP.

Why? What good has he done other than Hyderabad? Wasn't his loss because he was unable to look beyond the city into the other parts of AP? How is he equipped to handle as diverse a country as India?

I may be wrong here ..but this is based on what I have read.

Sachin Tendulkar gave the muhurat clap for 'Awwal Number' - that apart, he hasn't done much wrong in the last 20 yrs!

Applying the same logic what good have Rahul, Sonia have done for India excepting take care of their own security and encourage Mumbai type massacres on its citizens by turning a blind eye on national security.
