NZ missing their chances as well ;D What is up with fielding standards

Incidentally, the average strike rate of wicket keepers compared to batsmen must be the highest in this era. Dhoni, McCullum, Boucher, McGlashan, Haddin.

Ambrose could add to that list.

Actually cricinfo calls it a win by 84 runs, even though India batted second. This is probably because India were ahead of the DL target by that many runs when the match stopped ;D

Frankly, cant figure out the basis for 84 runs win.

When we were following it live, as the rains came, CI said if they have to reduce the game by 3 overs, the reduced target would be 197 in 33 overs .. and since India has already crossed that score the game was won by India by 10 wickets.

Maybe someone on the DG can explain this more in detail.

Honestly, calling this a victory by runs does not make too much sense, but then this is all some question of semantics.

I think their logic is given in cricinfo:
"Rajesh, our stats editor, explains the victory margin: "The par score after 23.3 overs was 117. India were 84 ahead of that par score, which explains the result margin. When the game was stopped for the last rain interruption, India were still chasing 220, and they hadn't reached that target yet. Hence they didn't actually achieve the target with ten wickets in hand, they were only ahead of the par score at that stage by 84 runs, which is why the margin of victory is 84 runs, not ten wickets."

As to your comment about the 197 and won by 10 wickets: I think that it was wrong (assuming the 84 run victory is the correct terminology, even though I am not a big fan of it).

Rajesh's explanation is logical. Thanks for pointing it to me.

I guess these margins/terminology would matter if bonus points etc are involved. just thinking aloud
