Even great commentators have their off days. Here is Ian Johnston on two ocassions:

"The Bowler's Holding...the batsman's Willey.."

" (After a long spell of bowling) Illingworth is relieving himself at square leg.."

Simply outstanding. It would be terrific if we could compile all these jav(aga)elins and put them up on the front page so that others can find them easily.

Hey - I thought that an average is expressed as the cumulative score (and not infinity) if a batsman is never dismissed.

Not defending this 'maidan jester' here - and he surely shouldn't have concluded as much because Dhoni could have been dismissed once.

I think a player's intelligence on the field can be gauged by the words that come out of his mouth. Bedi, this fellow. They correlate to thinking on the field. Wouldn't hold guys like 'iz gooood' Inzamam to the same standard becuase he simply does not know English.

Contrast these to what Dravid and Ganguly speak. While one may endlessly question who they blame after a loss, they never talk loose, laughable and incorrect nonsense.

I am pretty sure SG will make a good commentator (Not saying that he should be one now). Whether or not he reads the game correctly, he will not become a laughing stokc like Javi.
RD: I dont know.

I can see SG and RD commentating together.

1st ODI India v Australia at Mohali, March 29, 2008

RD: Pathan... bowling around the wicket to Michael Clarke. What do you think of this idea Saurav?
SG: I think it is a Fantastic idea...

Michael Clarke tries to drive on the up and nearly plays on.
SG: Fantastic delivery...Clarke lucky to be there Rahul?
RD: Most Definitely, Saurav.

Next ball goes screaming to the cover fence
SG: That will be four...yes it goes all the way. Rahul what do you think of Michael Clarke?
RD: I think he is Fantastic, no doubt. He is in Fantastic form.

Kind of cheesy but I love the sentiment. It's portuguese (beautiful language). Translates something like this.

(And) I belong to nobody.
And I belong to the whole world.
And the whole world is you as well.

If you are interested in either Brazilian culture or the Portuguese language, you should check out Brazilian music. Try listening to Tribalistas (Brazilian pop) - my singature comes directly from the lyrics of the song "Ja sei Namorar".

Should add a subsection - Arun Lallipops:
"eehehehehhehehheheheheheheh"
"the retardation of the ball"
"Uthappa is a fearsome hitter, more so than Pietersen"

That last one settles it. Arun Lal is demoted to below Srinath in IQ. I wonder if he just switches off when Pietersen bats...err hits. Maybe he hasn't seen Pietersen's earlier knocks before India. Oh well, Lal will be Lal..
