It seems there are lot of Dravid haters around!
« on: February 07, 2009, 11:18:13 PM »

Or may be they are just talking reality and common sense!!!

Will KP bring down the Wall?

BANGALORE: Rahul Dravid may not fit into the scheme of things in the Royal Challengers team, if hints by team’s owner liquor baron Vijay Mallya are anything to go by.

Having successfully acquired Kevin Pietersen for a whopping $1.55m at the IPL auction in Goa, Mallya strongly indicated that he would not mind a change at the helm.

He told the media, "Rahul Dravid is our captain as of today. We have not discussed captaincy yet (for the forthcoming second season) and we will discuss it. Kevin Pietersen certainly could be a strong contender, but there are others as well, so we will take a call."

That puts Rahul Dravid, the team’s icon player and captain, on shaky ground. Even last year, after a string of below-par performances by his team, Mallya had expressed dissatisfaction but stopped short of taking drastic action. Now, with Pietersen in the bag, Mallya has the option of giving his ‘‘vision’’ shape since Pietersen’s playing style and go-getting persona - many say - match Mallya’s feisty ways.

What also goes against Dravid is that he does not have the same value as a T20 batsman as he has as a Test player. Besides, there were reports that things were not exactly hunky-dory between him and Mallya.

The others possible choices as captain would include Robin Uthappa, who moved to Bangalore from Mumbai. The transfer deal struck with the Mumbai Indians, wherein the Bangalore side let go off Zaheer Khan in exchange for the hard-hitting Uthappa, was the first sign of Mallya taking control of the team. Then, as with Pietersen now, Mallya had hinted that the captaincy for Season 2 was an open issue.

‘Dravid undecided on captaincy issue too’

Royal Challengers team owner Vijay Mallya has hinted that Rahul Dravid may lose his captaincy in the coming IPL season. That, of course, is in stark contrast with what the team management has been professing, the same people with whom Mallya will, presumably, discuss the captaincy. A top RCB official had told TOI earlier that Dravid will continue as captain only for Mallya to openly rebuff him later.

"I am the boss, I’ll decide," Mallya had said.

Dravid himself, according to people close to him, is undecided on the whole issue. "He will discuss everything with the people concerned sometime this month. Things such as the captaincy are not the be all and end all stuff with him," was their take.

Seeing that he gave up the Indian Test and ODI captaincy when at his prime, that much is obvious but what isn’t as yet, is how Mallya thinks. In Formula One, he continues to back his drivers who struggled to complete races but then the car they were driving was not of their choice.

As someone who knows Mallya well put it: "In this case, it was Dravid’s team that did the losing. It was he who strategised the buying, leading to all the criticism of a ‘Test side in T20 clothing’. Mallya doesn’t forget these things in a hurry.

The same worthy, however, indicated another aspect of Vijay Mallya’s thinking. "He is not one to surround himself with youth for youth’s sake. Mallya values experience."

Where is 'lot'? Mallya = 1 guy.

Moreover I do not see any hatred from Mallya. If this article is to be trusted he wants to hold Dravid responsible for team's failure and that is not hatred. That is reasonable whether one agrees or not.

yup ... like holding SG responsible for KKR's failure last year .... that despite having a much better team.

Dravid had to play with the likes of Kallis and Jaffer in a T20 game .... while Ganguly had Mccullum and Ponting and Ishant.

Mallya can hold Dravid accountable for the team ... fair but it does not take away from your own hatred that is just spilling out  s

in case you did not read...THE TEAM FOR BRC WAS RD and Charu Sharma's BRAINCHILD, and mallaya was not too happy about that *ty team. But RD never took responsiblty.
SG selected Shoaib, he whoopped some DD a** , hope you remember that.Other players were all selected in consultation with Buchanan. And Gayle not playing was a big setback , McCullum was gone after few matches. So we suffered from issues which we did not forsee.Oh btw do not forget the two MOMs which SG got.

Well , I can understand cricinfo's bitterness . His team just bought a mediocre bowler at 12 times his price and the very next day the man they totally ignored wins a test match on his own.

but not as bitter as some of those who bought  an over hyped player for 1.5 Million dollar player who scored 1 and lost the match, and dont forget he is even considered for captain's role for the three weeks he will play in IPL  ;D

So , Ganguly did not know McCullum will not be available for the whole season . What a captain indeed . The irony is cricinfo had kept his mouth shut when KP scored 97 and comes out of his hole when he fails . Typical Gangulian style . Lol , his god is also of the same type . He kept his mouth shut when GC was humiliated by everybody(perhaps he was enjoying it) and now comes out saying it was not GC's mistake afterall . What a hypocrite. Dont worry cricinfo , KP will not be our captain just like a rumour wa spread that we will spend all our 2m$ only on KP only to see it was just plain assumption.

do you want me to paste the link where Mallaya clearly says he was ready to spend 2M if bidding got extended?
Ganguly knew Mccullum will not be there but he didnt know Gayle will be injured(unfortunately he didnt have the third eye like Chappal had to spot invisible divisive forces). He was all for Mccullum when people were surprised initially for the price KKR paid for him.
Also KP flop was brought in reply to your thread on why KKR fans are mourning purchase of Mortaza.Do you know there is a word called 'Context' in the dictionary ?
Also do you want me to post the link where Mallaya has mentioned that he thinks KP is a good contender for captainship slot for the team ?
Unless you telling me that you have an extremely unethical boss who loves to spread rumors ..... ;D. And it is funny to see for the money RD is even ready to play for him even after being insulted openly!!

Oh btw going by your logic where you called Mortaza mediocre can i request you to refer to the scorecard of India Vs Bangladesh for WC 2007 and verify who was MOM ? I think he is a superstar and deserves a Mil.

FYI I myself conside Mortaza price to be too much , but for a moment i am trying to fit into  chappal and come up with outrageous out of the context logic !

First of all , I will not believe that Mallya is such a fool to give KP captaincy for 3 weeks and then give somebody else the captainship unless there is some deal with KP to remain with the team for the whole tenure which will be great news for us . Remember , there is a core committee which will take the decision and not just Mallya himself. We all know very that RD is not a stickler for power and fame , he quit Indian captaincy when he was on top with overseas victory , and there were no regrets by him . Is there any shame in playing as an ordinary player. In the last auction , wheater  he chose the right or wrong players , he was his own , whereas Ganguly was a mere puppet at the hands of his owner. Now , coming to the 2m$ , agreed , but anyone with a little sense knew it was never going to happen . We all know how Mallya exaggerates every small tiny things . This was just one of them . There were really 3 star players at the Auction and each team could have got atmost 1 of those . Now ,let us see who could have competed against us . MI ,CSK and KXIP had already made it clear that they wanted AF . So there was no way there could try and grab KP . DD had  a definite plan and they worked on its basics , KKR did not have enough money to even bid for KP . That left us with RR , who had already purchased Tait and were left with 1.5m$ balance . Hence , all we needed was to bid a touch higher and KP would be ours . Also , accd to a news-report our coach was always in touch with Jessie Ryder since 1 month and we were surely looking at buying him as well.
