The CB series win was memorable but what stands out in my mind even today is the knock where GG came of age (in te international arena) ...we lost the match, but his fightback (along with Dhoni & Uthappa) set the stage for us to get a very solid opening partner for Veeru / SRT

For me the great achievement (though not a single event) was the emergence of Zaheer and Ishant as the most dependable opening bowling pair in the world, a first for Indian Cricket.

Agree... and the establishment of MSD as a genuine leader of the team.

Most dependable in the world?? I think that would be Steyn & Ntini.

the arrival of ishant definitely the highlight of 2008 !

the resurgence of zaheer had begun much earlier in 2007 - so i would not put that down as a moment of 2008

the IPL. bringing to india the concept of loyalty to teams other then the national team. i know this existed for ranji teams but i think the ipl has more of a mass following.

SG retiring while on top of his game instead of waiting to be given a nudge.

2008 was quite a crucial year for Indian cricket.

Forget individual players and their achievements. As a team, one of the biggest concerns for India has been whether we could handle the transition when the seniors make way. I think 2008 showed that we have done fine in the ODIs. While Sachin was around in Australia, we did very well without him in SL and against England. I suspect it may not be as easy in the tests but there is hope and the seamless transition in the ODIs could actually extend the test careers of the seniors. Every other team seems to be struggling to handle the gaps left - Aus suddenly appears weak, SL is just not the same without Jayasuriya.

And then there is the IPL! What an event, what a spectacle, what a contest and what an opportunity for upcoming talent!!! India was already the richest cricket board but this has really widened the gap big time. I also think this is the beginning towards club based cricket, which in the long term is very good for all stakeholders - the players, the public, the administrators and the game itself.
