Rahul Dravid Evolving as Captain
« on: March 24, 2006, 10:52:43 PM »
This is a good article I found about Rahul in the Indian Express. I always thought he had a very good cricketing brain and would come good as captain. His ODI captaincy as pointed in the article looks very good now, but in Tests somehow he is too much in the attack mode, may be the influence of the agressive Aussie mind. Australians always attack unlike the English or S.Africans.  May be he will learn when to get defensive and stop the runs, when the tide is against you. Enjoy the article

So far as test captain his captaincy needed a lot to be desired.  His choosing to field in both the Karachi and Mumbai proved that.  Don't give me that 39-6 stuff.  It was a bone headed move.  The decisons resulted in losses.  He has fallen behind in count.  Let us hope he turns it around.

I am sure eventually he will evolve as a fine captain. But he is still not there.

Evolution as defined as Darwin takes a long long time to fructify...so if thats any yardstick RD is either still swinging from the trees or probably taking his first step as a neanderthal man...else how do you explaing bone headed moves both at Mumbai and Karachi (come to think of it two sister cities) may be the sea breeze does tricks with his brains....

A technical point. Neanderthal man, evolutionarily speaking, was not an earlier point in the human evolution lineage but branched out from a common root.  So there is almost no Neanderthal ancestry in Homo Sapiens genetci make-up. And by brain to body weight ratio, they did a little better than modern man.....

Another nice story about evolution involves a donkey, a zebra, a mule and a horse.
I have forgotten the story. Can anyone remind me please?
I hope, the Indian team gets past the 'donkey' stage soon! :)
