is this the same pitch where SG got a century?

(what, so many posts and no mention of SG - how can that be! )

did the poor running bring back memories of SG? ;D

poor running was at adelaide where RD ran out SG.

if SG is in can RD be far behind? :D same story right through their careers

are you implying that RD was always lagging behind SG in everything? i sense an anti-RD bias.
To decide pro or anti you must ask for the ratio of bad things to good things these guys do.

are you suggesting that RD has done bad things?  ;D

easy - opposite of "good".

good: staying away from evil
evil : GC

So as per that definition, both have done the bad thing, no?

I think the Aussies will need a lead of 225-250 to feel very safe.

I think the Kiwis will back themselves to get anything under 200 here - the pitch has eased on day 2 and will further ease on day 3

BTW, this test will finish in 3 days.. pathetic.

more than the pitch, it has poor batting - goes to show how much the batters have been spoilt by flat tracks that they have no idea how to bat on a pitch with assistance for bowlers.

Anyways, IMO, tests finishing in 3 days with good contest between bat and ball is great.

btw, I'm very impressed with Flynn !! He has a solid defense, not very flashy and is a fighter and will nto give away his wicket. He is a ideal #3 for NZ in the current setup and should be moved up there, even as early as 2nd innings. Ryder with flashy strokeplay can easily move down to #6.

It is almost analogous to RD playing at #3 and other strokemakers playing around him.

http://content-www.cricinfo.com/ausvnz2008/content/story/379066.html

Heavy legs slow Hayden
Before his 99th Test Matthew Hayden gave a couple of convoluted answers to questions about how long he would stay in the game. Following a stop-start tour of India, the heat on Hayden's position continues to increase after his return of 8 and 0 in this game. Hayden was the victim of deliveries going away both times, but the ball Chris Martin opened with on Friday afternoon was pretty special as it caught the batsman's push on the way to Brendon McCullum.

One way to tell how well a player is dealing with age is to look at his footwork early in an innings. Hayden's 37-year-old legs are decidedly heavy and if he wants to extend his career to the Ashes he will need a big contribution in his 100th Test.

Lee gets physical in Ryder fall
In an Australia-India series two pats on the helmet would probably earn a match ban, but Jesse Ryder is unlikely to remember Brett Lee's gentle taps. Ryder was crouched down after being struck in the groin by a Lee delivery and by the time the bowler extended his follow-through he had started to feel slightly sorry for his conquest. Fortunately for Ryder, it was the end of the over. He needed the extra time to recover.

Run, Michael , run
There are kite runners, quotes runners, marathon runners and now hat runners. In Australia's bid to improve their over-rate they have employed Michael Hussey at times to run from gully to the bowler, who is usually at fine-leg, pick up his cap, take it to the umpire and jog back to his fielding position. It's an exercise that saves a few seconds but adds about 50 metres on Hussey's GPS. Australia delivered 25 overs before lunch, five behind the expected rate, and another 20 before the innings ended in the second session.

Gabba weathers storm season
The Gabba's reputation as the best draining ground was confirmed again following another vicious Brisbane storm on Thursday night. After sunset on day one the thunder and lightning arrived and the rain was so heavy it looked like there was a blizzard in the stadium. Puddles formed almost immediately and the wind blew the water around like a whirlpool. More showers came through the night but by morning the ground was dry and play started on time. Storms are predicted over the next couple of days.

Don't tell the wife I'm at the cricket
Friday at the Gabba is a traditional day for a sickie and while the crowd was on the small side at 11,886, there were still people hiding from the cameras, their bosses and their wives. One advertising representative, who thinks he might look like Mitchell Johnson, was enjoying his Ferris Bueller's Day Off from work and the family, spending time with his mates and being thankful that his wife actually knows he's off to the World Cup rugby league final across town on Saturday night. Two days of lies, and leaving the stadium to make quiet phone calls, takes too much effort.

The Kiwis had the right idea in the first innings ..attack since the pitch will anyway get you.

I think they should plan for How to stay put at one end and the likes of McCullum & Taylor to go after the bowling. I also expect Vettori to come up the order in the second innings.

why not? two computers, two TVs are the most basic necessities in a couple's life, imo.

it is well worth the money spent!

I disagree. I don't think pitch will get you here. I think the low scores are more to do with batter's incompetence to play on bowler-friendly tracks. Guys like RD/SRT/Kallis when in form can play normally on these tracks and survive and score.

Pitch was anyways very good to bat on yesterday and even today.

Ponting not willing to cop the criticism again ... ban is better than this ;D .:

28.3     Watson to Flynn, no run, full outside off and very firmly defended down the track
Australia need to get another 17 overs in in the next 40 minutes, or it's overtime again

Brett Lee's back

Symonds on ...that should speed it up a bit.

If these two stay together till 175-200, we could still have a game on. This has now become a good batting surface!
