Chandrapaul did RD in 2nd ODI.
« on: November 15, 2008, 02:43:17 PM »
What can one say about a star batter who come to bat in over no 5 while chasing a moderate task of 232, ramained not out till end ie 48.5 overs, accompanied all partners and yet could not force a win. He has BIG BIG BIG HUGE experience of playing int ckt, not that he is new to the game.
Thus he did what RD had done often, contiune to be excessively/unduely solid, denying chances of others down the line to go for bowling, neither going himself, playing at SR 71, not changing gears......Yes, there is one difference, RD use to throw his wkt (so shrudely that nobody feels so, instead everyone can say- well he tried hard, put good fight etc) and avoid being around during the last deciding overs. Idiot SC remained till the end in spite of not being able to take charge. He did something similar against us once, in near past.
This shows that pure test playes are not suitable for ODIs, such that sometimes their slow batting is a cause of concern. They will carry value only when a team is down at 10-4 in 5 overs etc and lasting 50 overs is at a concern, which is not common.
We nurtured such RDs in the past and so our ODI wins % was never attractive.
Now we (I) look for good future......

Gayle played a brilliant inngs in first match.
Poor thing is WI lost both of the close matches. The absence of RD will potentially be filled by RS in ODI. In Tests it will take time to fill in those shoes.  While i don't want to be too harsh on SC without watching the game not knowing if it was a selfish inngs or he ran out of partners. But score card says, there were 9 players who got out under the score of 12. SC staying there till the end was trying to get them close to chase. One would expect he takes charge when the score in close to 200 and wickets are down.
While you say RD may throw his wicket, but is that a right approach to win. If a player who has been around last 40 overs, throws his wicket instead of winning what is the team gaining. This will the rest of team struggling to score in double figures. WI team even since early dominative days had their lower order batsmen(bowlers to be precise) throw their bat at everything.
Bringing RD into equation here has to do with the team combination.
My personal preferance will always be to have  solid player in team who can hold the inngs together if needed. Obviously if he is in ODI's he should know how to hit his shots. This is where i think if RS or MVIjay can continue to focus, they can come out as far better ODI players at position RD held so long for Indian cricket.
