Hello .. Colly's average in India in ODIs is the best among all their batsmen .. he should be the last person to go out.

they should start by dropping bits and pieces cricketers like patel & swann and get a wicket taking spinner in .. then move prior down as far as possible in the batting order .. move bopara up .. and you have a reasonably good team

Cook is one of the most solid batsmen they have in the lineup...and he should play

While Yuvi played like a PSYCHO, the England bowling was JUST PATHETIC !!!! Look at the lengths they bowled - it was either length ball or a full toss and spraying the ball all over the wicket !!!

Srinath (replacing Jimmy on Extra Cover) made a point that this is because they just played two ODI matches against less than club sides ... they should have played a 3 day match even though they first play ODIs because it would help them get their lenghts right

AS per Yuvi, Even if Yuvi had not batted a PSYCHO with the opening we got and Raina innings we were sure to score over 315 which is a winning score. This is without YP firing.
But that said  I mostly agree with Dex and KIC both. There are too many players in the team that can do everything and seem to forget their basic Role. However don't  agree on Colly being last playter to go. That should go to Freddie. Colly is proabably one of the best fielder in world today and can bat and ball making him good ODI fit. But there has to be a team balance.
Under a standard condition I tilt towards Dex's recomendation where we play Cook and push Prior down the order. The only reason i wont do this is it will hurt my fantasy team and may have to swap MSD instead of Prior  ;D .
On a good bowling track however, Eng will shine much better. With a current batting order and players in form , even if YS goes out and Mvijay comes in next match , I see a huge total in Indore as well unless Eng focus on one more core bowler.

I meant that Colly should be the last batsman to be dropped

The last series in SA, He hardly scored anything and took any wickets. When an all rounder does not score in either dept, may be a specialist should get in.

Oh come on .. he hardly batted in that series ...how can that be any indicator?

I think in India he should bat at No3 or 4 - he can hold the innings together and can also shift gears effortlesly.

Well one match got rained off, in the other the openers did not get out at all .. he hardly got a bat in the SA series. Prior to that he has done quite well .. an average of 37+ with a 90+ SR is not too bad, is it? Add to that the fact that he is probably the most experienced bat in Indian conditions, he is an asset.

England should be batting him higher in India.

In that case I will agree, He should be pushed ahead of Flintoff.  What do you do with Shah than ? He has scored some good runs and seems the best fit for number 3. KP seems to be fixed at number 4 (and i agree wit this). Colly can fit in only at 5 unless there is an out of box thinking.

Then comes Flintoff and Bopara goes back to no 7.  Something does not seem right. Bopara's bowling skills are not being used , Thus he is focussing more on batting. I would be reluctant to play him too much down than that. Only way we can fit in Collingwood in the above lineup is to drop Shahji.

With the current Eng squad, here will be my XI:

Bell
Shah
Collingwood
Pietersen
Bopara
Flintoff
Broad
Prior
Sidebottom
Harmison
Anderson

I don't think Swann or Patel are good enough spinners to play in the XI. They are bits and pieces cricketers at best. I prefer Bopara at 5 since IMO he is a better finisher. PC is ideal at #3 in the current setup. I also prefer Shah to Cook as opener since Shah is wristy and can do well in sub-continent. btw, why did they ditch that Nixon guy, he's a betetr WK and batter than Ambrose/Prior/Read/Foster etc....

I was just looking at the ODI itinerary..
Rajkot(West)->Indore(Center)->Kanpur(North)->Bangalore(South)->Cuttack(East)->Gauwahati(Far East)->Delhi(North).

I expect England to lose 0-7 and whinge about travel and hotels (but for BLR and DEL, no place above has a decent hotel) ;D ;D

in absence of Ms, it is amusing to see. perhaps for the first time that a thread talks so much about opposition's batting order, leaving ours !
