CP Visits Chappel's academy.
« on: November 08, 2008, 01:42:05 PM »
CP who is in the city of Jaipur took some time off in the morning to pay his respects to the great work being done by Greg Chappel in the new 'FUTURE Academy' that is setup in this great city.

CP first went to visit the Sawai Mansingh stadium .... got to the field looked around the stands ... and then visited the dressing room (which has at times been graced by the greats like Chappel and some other minors like Ganguly etc). The stadium itself was disappointing. Despite being touted as one of the best, It was smaller than CP expected. Boundry lengths were closer to what CP finds in his Chicago league. The facilities seemed ok in the dressing room though nothing great that stood out.

The academy (Which is attached to the stadium and the practice fields ) were world class. The workers were very pleasant and happy to show CP around (his reputation and his exploits in league cricket must have made it here). The work out room was world class (and CP was repeatedly told that the australians love to use it). Unfortunately chappel wasnt there to personally greet CP. I was told that Chappel is no longer the coach of Rajasthan (I did not know he was) and Ian Frazer has taken over as the coach of the team (I did not know that either).

The best part was an obstacle course setup along with the academy. Was a military style training facility. Great place.

A good experience though.

very nice. It would have been great if you also managed to meet Greg Chappel, the legend.  :)

So Frazer the bigger hack gets a cushy coach's job? I am assuming this is for Rajasthan and not the IPL team coached by Warne.

Did you have to pull strings and drop names to be shown around? Or did you just mention that you were one of the three GC fans today  ;D

Nopes. They must have recognized me as one of the three :) Or maybe they must have seen me get out on You Tube :)

I just went in very confidently. There were a couple of pretty girls at the counter and I just asked them very nicely. They called a manager over and he took me around.

It indeed is. I was half expecting to be not let in. I was actually pressed for time .... the manager insisted that I try something from their restaurant/cafe on site but I was in a hurry. I just wanted to see the training facilities and the obstacle course etc.
