What is all this about closet racism that some news anchors are talking about here? That whites lie in opinion polls but will not vote for Obama in the real polls .. is that a serious issue/worry/hope?

Hope Obama wins... not sure McCain can lead a country...definitely not a country as big as the US..

He had nothing to say except taking potshots at Obama... no content...no fact based discussions.pure hyperbole ... The Vietnam war must have taken its toll

The opinion expressed by many people seems to be that this will reduce his lead, but the lead is large enough to be safe.  In the program DD refers to, Obama rubbished the idea.

Obama begins with a bang, wins Dixville Notch
 http://www.rediff.com/news/2008/nov/04uspoll5.htm

November 04, 2008 12:18 IST
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama [Images] on Tuesday won handsomely in the first election returns of the 2008 presidential race, winning 15 of 21 votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.

People in the isolated village in New Hampshire's northeast corner voted just after midnight Tuesday.

It was the first time since 1968 that the village leaned Democratic in an election.

Obama's rival, Republican John McCain [Images], won 6 votes, CNN reported.

A full 100 per cent of registered voters in the village cast ballots.

The town, home to around 75 residents, has opened its polls shortly after midnight each election day since 1960, drawing national media attention for being the first place in the country to make its presidential preferences known.

The result in Dixville Notch is hardly a reliable bellwether for the eventual winner of the White House or even the result statewide, the report said.

While New Hampshire is a perennial swing state with 4 Electoral College votes at stake -- Dixville Notch consistently leans Republican. The last Democrat it picked was Hubert Humphrey over Richard Nixon in 1968.

President Bush won the town in a landslide in the last two elections: He captured 73 per cent of the vote in 2004 (19 residents picked Bush while six preferred Sen. John Kerry), and secured 80 per cent of the vote in 2000 (21 votes for Bush, five votes for Al Gore [Images].)

But villagers expected the results to be close this year given Democrats now outnumber Republicans there.

The town picked both John McCain and Barack Obama for the New Hampshire Democratic and Republican primaries in January. McCain ultimately won the state of New Hampshire, while Hillary Clinton [Images] upset Obama there.

That is what I am worried about.  It is not over till it is over.

Obama can still win the popular vote and lose out on the electoral vote which is the metric to become the president.

Once I see the magic number of 270 on Obama side of the column is when I will finally believe in this.

Well, yes, Obama has to rubbish it!!! Think of the headlines if he didn't--Obama calls Whites Racsits.

It isn't over until they call it...people lie throught their teeth to pollsters.

ONe thing...kos pointed out we could be seeing a reverse-bradley among African-Americans. They're saying "undecided" in polls in strange numbers in some states rather than say Obama to the pollsters although voting trends conclude that at least 90-92% will go obama (as have in previous years for dems).

the tactics republicans use to cheat would put a 3rd world dictator to shame. in the voting machines in some republican counties, people are voting for obama and it's flipping vote to mccain in the final screen!

it is definitely a possibility. perfectly decent, honest people at my work only whisper about their support to Mccain and they say it like they are not completely sure way and the only thing I can think of is, they are trying to avoid being thought of as racist.

Yes, Dex. I feel that the Dems have a very good chance, and are way more likelier to win than last time. That said, I completely agree that things are over only when teh result is announced ... I will be keeping my fingers crossed till it is done.

and they have already started talking about "voting irregularities" just in case they lose!

it is shocking how many democratic voters have their votes tossed out on technicalities every year...
