Jaffer scored about 1260 runs this year in the competition.  Awesome!!!!

For that alone he should be in the Test 15 to NZ as a reward for doing not good but super in the Ranji this year.  Plus he did well last year too.

Before we brand him a flat track bully let us give him some credit for applying himself and get that many runs.  VS, GG and now WJ after this stellar year should be the top 3 openers.

Well, he's a FTB who does not have the technique to play in NZ regardless of how many runs he scores here.
That is not totally true either.  Factually he has a double hundred in WI's and a century in SA.   So to me he is a good bet despite all the whispers of him being a flat track bully.  If VS or GG are down for some reason I do not mind him being my back up opener.

He did well in England as well, where conditions were definitely not easy ..especially facing the new ball.

laxman isnt getting any younger. besides i am sure even jaffer cant fare far worse then lax or rd of late.
calling ramshorns to handle this ... is beyond me ...

forget the laxman comparison or replacement issue ... i dont think it is very outlandish to consider Jaffer as one of the contenders for a middle order berth. He need not be restricted to just the openers' slots. Ditto for Chopra.

yes it is!!! now everyone is jumping the gambhir-the-failure-turned-it-around bandwagon. there are plenty of failed openers who dont do anything fabulous

I did not say he is a shoo-in. But, there is no harm in keeping him or Chopra in the loop just in case the likes of Rohit, Badri, Raina etc do not cut it at the international level

when laxman is no longer playing you do not have to compare his replacement to him

what makes you think he will be retiring anytime soon? IMO he has another 2-3 years at least

Jaffer did make noises before the final that he is ready to bat anywhere in the order for Team India.
Given all the runs he has scored, he surely can go as the third opener to NZ.

Hopefully.

But I never compared him to Laxman. I said, forget Laxman ...just keep him as an option.

What if Yuvi fails?
What if Dravid continues to fail?

What if out of Rohit, Badri, Raina etc, only one or none succeed?

This is what you get on CI
Uttar Pradesh require another 428 runs with 6 wickets remaining.
Would make more sense to say UP need to bat out 64 overs to draw the game. ;D

I do not have much to say except give you this.  Enjoy the music too while we are at it.  Soothing stuff.

This is a text book lesson on how not to compile a video. It does great disservice to showcase someone who is so easy on the eye via something this jarring!

One has to give credit where it is due.  Mumbai cricket team when it comes to Ranji are a class apart.  They won 38 out of the 75 editions.  If this was Hyderabad winning I would have bragged to no end.  To the victors go the spoils.  Great season and a fitting result. :notworthy:
