ICL tata bye bye
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:01:58 AM »
guys i got this in an email...dont have a link:

---
Speculations are rife that the suspension of Dinesh Mongia and Chris Cairns from the remaining season of the ICL has got something to do with match-fixing.

The ICL Executive Board says that Cairns has been suspended because he had hidden his knee injury from the ICL officials, which is a breach in the players' contract and Mongia has been suspended as he was aware of Cairns' injury and didn't convey the news to the ICL Board.

However, the ICL has decided to call in inspectors from the ICC's anti-corruption unit as a reaction to complaints about the activities of a few unnamed players. The ICL is keen to counter questions on the integrity of the Twenty20 tournament.

One ICL source has been quoted saying, "In India the ghost of match-fixing is alive." While Paul Condon, the former Metropolitan Police commissioner who chairs the ACSU has told the ICC's annual conference that India's new Cricket Leagues are "the biggest threat in terms of corruption in the game since the days of cricket in Sharjah".

Considering the kind of hullaballoo the match-fixing scandal created when it first burst into the scene during the late 90's, the Pandora's Box might just be about to open all over again. But cricket fans all around the globe will keep their fingers crossed and hope it doesn't happen again.

AddendumThe mystery of ICL suspensions is getting more intriguing by the minute. The latest news from ICL is that the Mumbai coach, Sandeep Patil has been suspended with immediate effect. While the official ICL release has stated that Patil needs a break, the fly on the wall has the buzz that like Cairns and Mongia, he too might have links with book-makers.

So, ICL is indeed interesting enough for people to fix matches ;). Perhaps Blwe fixed them - he's the only one who think ICL games were interesting  :D :D

Well, ICL should come out and say why they have taken action.

But this is always a risk in this structure - where one entity owns all teams plus decides which player should play in which team etc.

ICL was fixed (as in neutered) by the BCCI.
