poor choice. it was Mishra that bowled out Aus for 268 which was the deciding factor in us winning the game.
Not even Gambhir's 100 (and 67) matches up to that because he was playing with 200 runs behind him thanks to Mishra.

IMO Mishra > Gambhir > MSD > SRT/SG

India put themselves in the match winning positon and never let the advantage slip from there. As the saying goes: Batsman  setup the test match and bowlers win it.
I rate the SG/SRT,  partnership in the innings 1 as the most important phase of match. The follow up of inngs of MSD to push the SR with SG was where we secured this match and landed in commanding position. This is where we had setup ourselves chances to Win/ Draw the game.
IMO Mishra taking five wickets would come after these two parterships. In inngs one 10 wickets had to fall, If not for 269, may be for 360. The good SR india maintained was a sign to push for the victory throughout.

I think MSD is the right choice, for his 2 aggressive innings , for his captaincy and for not letting the advantage slip away from India's hands. Do you guys remember how many times in similar situations we came out and player boring, defensive second innings? MSD read the situation brilliantly and made sure himself and the batsmen who went before him too played aggressive cricket.

Every one has different interest and view point ....we do not question your the basic premise of your interest or view point...yes we probably debate and argue on the validity of POV..that is perfectly fine. But do not question other people's interest, if they get kick out of posting in GC-SG thread and not in MSD thread that is none of your concern!

Yeah, you are right.

The only agenda I have is I understand cricket.

MSD's 2nd innings doesnt count --thats called garbage time scoring.

So what we are left with is this

SRT - 88 at a crucial time on a batting wicket. Had India been bundled out around 250-300, we culd have kissed this test goodbye.

SG - 102. ditto.

MSD - 92 valuable runs

Among these 3 above, SRT / SG rank higher from a contribution standpoint because of the state of the match and the fact that a collapse at that stage would have spelt doom.

MSD scores points for captaincy, but I dont see them being high enough to trump the contributions of SRT / SG.

Now to the bowling. On that pitch, a 375 -425 score was always on the cards even for  ateam batting 2nd. The people who didnt let that happen were the bowlers, notably Mishra, who set up the game, gaining us a 201 run lead on a batting wicket. After that killer blow, the match was set up and would have taken the most inept display from us to lose it.

So the decision from a cricketing standpoint, IMO was 1) Mishra 2) SG /SRT.

Some have argued for a switch in the rank ordering  and that is their opinion --which has some substantiation to it.

But choosing MSD by statistically adding up 1st & 2nd innings totals along with captaincy would not have been my choice --the 2nd innings was flogging a dead horse while the captaincy (quite good -- BTW, I have been praising his captaincy for quite a while now, so much for agenda) was not strong enough a factor to give it to him -- he after all had the stronger hand.

he is praised enough on this DG.

But some of his more fanatical followers (1 or 2) love to play vicarious victims by claiming (without basis or facts) that he doesnt get any respect.
