is badri our version of hick?
« on: October 02, 2008, 11:41:01 AM »
ok no numbers here and pure speculation

but he may just turn out to be a damp squib, life has shown us that hype only ends in failure or average performances

will this be a case of a hickup while more serious contenders we have not paid much attention to wait in the wings to take stage?

hype about Badri  ???

AFAIK, there has hardly been any hype on Badri for 3 years. In that time, there has been hype only on the Kohlis, Uthappas, Rainas, Rohits, Yuvrajs.....

Unlike Hick, Badri will not get a chance to fail. If he gets a chance, he will not fail  [god] [god]

Badri is in a SG-esque position (in the sense of being under magnifying glasses). His doors were being closed and the only way he got in was through speaking out. That in itself put a lot of pressure -- now he has a TINY window to show his goods otherwise the public attention would not longer be on him and he would lose his last chance.

The best thing for him at this point would be if they let him play all the A games and FC games against tourists until he hits form. Whether he is in the test team today or not, the fact is SG may retire or be dropped for good as early as a few months from now (if he indeed plays in the XI)  and SRT is a walking injury. So the chances will come fast and frequent.

i must say that badri has been a big letdown for me. this last couple of games is the first time i have seen him bat for a reasonable period of time. well i saw him in the IPL but that is different isn't it ? Im afraid i had the image of a technically sound classical player one who could to some extent replace the great RD after he retires. now as i already made it clear i dont think he is 1/10th the player of RD.

hell is it too much to expect another classical technically correct sound player to come along ? are we so spoiled by this golden generation that we have raised our expectations too high ? are we doomed for continiuing disappointments from the new gen ? first yuvi, then badri ....

i mean one can reconcile oneself to the fact that talent like sachin will come only once in a lifetime .. but a technique like dravids ? that can be developed cant it ? that can be built from a young age ? that can be worked upon toiled over perfected ? hell ... i am just setting my standards too high ...

This is analogous to making saying SG is a tailender and no. 11 batsman after watching him bat in the Ind-Pak tests in 2005  ::) ::) ::).

RD is anyways statistically already 1/2 the player he was - he averages 30 now, used to average 60.

You have been proved wrong on Gambhir in the last few months. You will again be proved wrong by Badri in the next few months.....

When RD came into the Indian team, he too wasn't one tenth the player that RD is. I still remember his debut one-day match against, I think, Pakistan. He struggled for seventeen or eighteen deliveries, before nudging one towards the off to score two runs. It was so awkward to note how a player who came into the team riding a string of domestic centuries could look so out of his elements in the international forum. He soon hit his stride, though, once he was in England.

Badri shouldn't be pressurized too much. He showed nerve in winning a one-day game in SriLanka. He should be given a decent enough rope, once in the team.

You misunderstood, mate. It's not the one-day that matters. It's the nerve.

I watched Badri a bit over the past few games shown on Neo Sports and one thing that is coming across (at least to me) is that he is totally overawed by the stage and the occassion and he looks like a guy who wanted to screw the most beautiful woman in the world but has had a preemi.... ;D

duh i dont remember seeing that - and i dont remember those odis - as no one in his right mind should anyway

all i remember is a talented assured young man walking out at lords to join ganguly when india were 5 down for very little - and then he began on his journey - solid, sure and elegant - and the rest of course is history.

let badri play 65 Tests like Hick and then we'll see.

err, actually, let's start with about 10 and give him a fair run. he deserves it more than anyone else
