Why is it such a big deal to be an alumni of Islamia Institute of Technology in Bangalore?

well i got into IIT..........got 3436th rank.......but since i was not getting the branch i wanted.....i am here in Michigan

I lived in Detroit for an year 1994-95. Visited the Ann arbor campus. Simply best.

well, i actually feel tht i took a rong step by coming here to Michigan....seems my talent is beign wasted....last 11 months tht i have been here.....i ve learnt nothing new.....all the stuff they teach here...... i already knew...and they don allow u to take more than 18 credits per semester......i wud have learnt a lot had i been in any other college in India (if not in IIT)......SIMPLY wasting my parents money $:-\$

Actually the CBS piece says that for an IIT grad IVY league stuff is a cruise. Vinod Khosla mentioned that. I am sorry you feel that way here at U of M. I hope you qualify for some kind of a RA or a TA or you are not ineligible.

Then your best best is internship when eligible.

I went to Delhi IIT -- stayed there for 2 days one summer (I think Aravalli hostel/hall). Went to IIT-M (which was IIT-B in the old days). Stayed there for a few days. Almost went to IIT-C (old IIT-M) but did not enter the campus. Why can I not brag about these?

IIT-D strong point: reasonable food (IIT-hostel standards), nice looking hostels.
weak point: hot, few trees

IIT-M: strong point - allowed entry to women's hostel (of course you had to know someone there, not good for me :-) ); also beautiful campus
weak point: middle of nowhere

Yes, but it was so long ago and in the mean time I have collected so much of other baggage, that name does not cut it anymore

At least Ohio State gives me some wonderful moments during the college football season!

Yes, but it was so long ago and in the mean time I have collected so much of other baggage, that name does not cut it anymore

ya....maybe you are right. everyone has his own perspective. personally I feel quite down at times to not to have that IIT label. Though I dont mean that people are nothing without that label....people have done and achieved...its just upon the hardwork one puts in. the more u churn yourself, the more u r refined. this is just what IIT does, If one does that without that label, then yes... then yes, you dont need to be under any umbrella!

the difference between IIT and US.... just preparing for the JEE makes you a strong contendor for the top slot here without any effort whatsoever...

I went to IIT Kanpur and did MS (was in the Ph.D. program but didn't like it, so left with an MS after 2.5 years) from Case Western Reserve University.

JFK, I did not get an admission to IIT. So went to OU, Hyderabad instead. Completed my master here in the US 1991-94, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. In the middle of no where geographically nevertheless a good school. Have been working in the States since May-1994.
