No idea about that but I think we must not forget that in the pecking order Badri comes after Rohit. He only made the squad because of SRT's withdrawal. Also I am not sure he did his cause any good with the last two innings after a good beginning in the first game. Given a choice I think Dhoni will always go for the younger player. At least that is how he comes across to me. I too would have liked to see Badri bat.

our pace attack seems to be really good now... we still have IS & SS in India and scores of contenders waiting. If we get a couple of good spinners, then we will have a bench strength as good as any nation

Well looks like Badri's career is going down the drain.... seems very analogous to Badani's career a few years back. SG prefered others over Badani, MSD is prefering others over Badri  :( >:( :( >:(

The Indian batting order would be tested, under lights and batting second.
I hope the team pulls this one as well. Seem like they would chase closer to 225-230.

Not sure if i want to read too much into it. In this match however Badri's resting is questionable.
His three inngs so far:
1st: Winning innings
2nd: Succumbed trying to play big shot as per team strategy to play aggressive against M&M
3rd: Soft dismissal before 45th over, hardly any pressure situation. Was beaten by bowler.

Question was, who needs rest if anyone from batters, presuming we are going to have five bowlers including IKP?
Options: GG,RS,YS,VK,SR,MSD,SB
Performance rating (only batting IMO)
MSD,SR,VK,SB,RS,GG,YS
GG comes after RS for multiple reasons (I don’t know how he survived initial overs in couple of matches, his first three balls in 3rd ODI were awful).
Anyway, Point being retaining the winning combination, providing the chance to players on bench.
This IMO secures MSD,SR,VK  and (SB to an extent considering his crucial knock in 2nd ODI). GG  gets to stay being an opener as the current team has a dearth.
My choices in preferential order were: 1. Drop YS, 2. Drop RS.

Not sure how much YS or Team will gain if he scores in this innings. He has to learn to value each innings he comes to play in middle and not be an untouchable.
RS: While he seems to be lacking runs as well, would have dropped him to give one more chance to SB. We have seen more of RS at international level than Badri.

Dirty mind: Watching YS and RS bowl more as compared to SB or SR, I knew there was more to it.
This also validates the thinking, that MSD and Kirsten would like to give chances to YS and RS to come in form at international level,  rather built up another option in the middle.
However I do not subscribe to notion this is end of Badri. I believe he should be drafted in Tests and given a run of 4 innings at least (sorry JFK can’t afford 2 years, most of the first inngs in tests are played with no pressure). I am of opinion he will prove to be a better option in test. But  I agree with the major point of discussion, giving Badri the 5th game.

And this guy Kohli has some shots and looks good.  After all the sarcasm directed at him for getting selected is turning out to be true and he might be here for a while afterall.  Good going.

Darn...missed a big innings here. Nevertheless, well played. Would have done much better if he did not have to play with two out of form bats.

7.49 pm: And on that note the rain has begun to fall harder and the ground staff have brought on the covers. At the moment the par score with three wickets down is 75. India are 70 for 3. If Raina had not holed out, the par score would have been 59. But we need a minimum of 20 overs for a result. The par score for 20 overs with three wickets down is 88.

There is a reserve day for this match and if there cannot be any more play today the match will be continued from 14.2 overs tomorrow. ;D

only one M is playing today. also the other M will bowl with a wet ball - may not be that effective. But pitch may have juicened up for seamers.

Anyways, I want us to win to move closer to NZ. Also want Eng to beat SA so that SA loses more pts.

SA - 122
NZ - 116
Ind - 114
Eng - 112
