Premadasa: ODI3 Ind -Sl
« on: August 22, 2008, 03:44:03 PM »
Pitch:
http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/ground/59306.html?class=2;spanmax1=22+Aug+2008;spanmin1=22+Aug+1998;spanval1=span;template=results;type=aggregate;view=innings

While traditionally scoring,  IMO  ~250ish pitch in current scenario.

Q's:
Win toss and  ?
Read a report of GG coming in, Who goes out ?
IKP:  did not watch any of his 2 odi bowlings but  still Is it worth to continue with him ?

Our concern is definately both batting and bowling, While in 2nd ODI we bowled good, In first we struggled to take wickets.
Thus deciding whether to go with 4 bowlers or 5 is  tough.
In batting, both the times we struggled to score 150.
Hence may be more emphasis on batting, 4 bowlers may be way to go.

Preferred team:
I am confused, Taking IKP out of equation the batting line up seems weak.
Replacing him with a bat, leaves 4 regular bowlers.

If we play IKP , either SR or RS have to stay out.
What do DGians think about IKP in last couple matches as bowler.
Who should sit SR/IKP/RS  ?

What about a team like this
VK,GG,
SB,MS,YS, SR, RS,
PK,HS,MP,ZK

Dropping Badri is out of question.  Badri has given some hope of survival.
However the batting line up seems to be crumbling consistently.
I don't know if one more bat will help. I think this was discussed in the other thread, but why not RS plays while SR sits out.
I have not seen any of these(in currnet ODI series), but somehow am indecisive among the two.
If MSD is sure about IKP playing, then it may not be that tough.

The team management is hopeful of Gautam Gambhir recovering on time from the stiff neck for the Sunday's crucial game

GG is fit and had a full nets session on Friday.

Also, indications are that pitch is spinner friendly. Another contradiction is ball is expected to move around under lights. So, play Ojha or a 4th seamer (MP/IP) or an extra bat? IP is slowly becoming an Agarkar - one poor ball every over !! If we go with 4 bowlers, do we have the part-timers to fill the 5th bowler? Yuvi is the only consistent part-timer. SR/RS/SB all supposedly can bowl - but can they relied on? Looks like we are missing Veeru as a bowler ;). Also, MP looked quite ordinary in the last game. With GG back in the team and VK, SB and MSD among runs, IMO, it is ok to play 5 bowlers. And I'll play Ojha for IP. Since it is expected to swing under lights, I am tempted to pick RPS instead of MP because in terms of effectiveness of bowlers when there is swing in the air, I rank ZK>PK>RPS>IP>MP. Also, I felt RS looked better than SR in the 2 games.

So, I would bring in Ojha for IP, RPS for MP and GG for SR.
My team: GG, VK, YS, MSD, SB, RS, PK, HS, ZK, Ojha, RPS

Badrinath should not bat below MSD, MSD's penchant for coming good while chasing notwithstanding.

solid lineup imo for a flat pitch - though parveen at 7 gives me jitters  ;D

I am peeved that after all these years of waiting and after all these days with pads on waiting to bat when he is in XI, Badri's fate is still hanging by a thread. I doubt whether MSD has the guts to drop him and play RS ahead of him in XI but he can still ruin Badri's chances by batting him at 7...then, there will be some mysterious run out or a bad decision or some wierd delivery, then Badri will have to think of ICL

SR>>>>>>>>VK.. in any 11 today.

This lineup makes more sense to me

GG, IKP, RS, SR, SB, YS, MSD, PK, HS, ZK, Ojha . on a turner. Else replace Ojha with MP.

Actually any one of RS, SR, SB, YS can play in any position between 3-6. These 4 along with GG and MSD are the 6 best batsmen for this team.

Also, I think MSD should open if IKP has to be dropped for RPS... SB/YS can play the slog overs!

On second thought.. Yousuf Pathan would have been a great replacement for Viru.. he can open and bowl too. Virat Kohli is a seriously odd/misfit selection for this tour. They should have had SB in the first team and when Viru fell brought in YP.

What an exciting four some that is.  Young, talented and full of strokes.  Add MSD and GG to that, now you are talking.

I really like this new one day makeup under Dhoni.

IKP is not bowling well. He is also rendered useless by making him open - so one of the 11 becomes wasted. The middle order in current form in this series becomes too fragile if MSD opens.

Actually any one of RS, SR, SB, YS can play in any position between 3-6. These 4 along with GG and MSD are the 6 best batsmen for this team.

But in this series, SR is looking clueless so far and YS is a bunny against spin. So, YS can either bat at 3 or 6, nowhere else, definitely not 4 or 5. And is SR/RS a better bat than VK for this game... not so sure.

that will be the game on a 225 pitch !!! we need to compensate for that by scoring 30 more than par score.
