It was an amazing race he actually took it easy after the 80th odd meter. I just hope we dont have a repeat of Ben J tomorrow.

NBC clearly said that they tried best to have the events brought out as best as they can live.  But given the time difference it is literally impossible.  The only thing they could get is Swimming and Gymnastics.  Given the popularity of the track and field the world over China needs to cater to the interests of the wider audience.  So I do not blame anyone here. 

I would enjoy the race later.  Amazing indeed.  This guy looked cool when I watched him in the QF's.

Considering that Bolt himself held the world record prior to this @ 9.72, I'm not sure there will be a Ben J repeat here. But commentators were betting against a WR here since it was 28 degC and 80% humid.

I stand corrected.  It was live on NBC, EST.  I missed the schedule.  I went back and just checked the lineup and sure enough was live here in the states.

I think he is simply great. No dope involved if you see his gestures while running, not the same as BJ which I did watch as well. This guy can go a long way in breaking his own record. And that is perhaps the reason why he slowed down at the end. Because, if you break the world record in a world athletic event you get 100K$ each time and sometimes more. Serge Bubka was a master of this art. He broke his own record about 15 or more times in a world athletic event - only an inch every time -, but never at Olympics where you get nothing but a medal.

You got that right, even the commentators were saying that. They infact said that now we have a Sergie Bubka, Irina Isinbayeva type in the track events as well and we will see records tumbling repeatedly.

Not at all. The hight does not help as per Michael Johnson who is commenting on BBC. He said that tall players are encouraged by the system to run 200m or 400m but not 100m (He probably speaks from his own experience). He said that Bolt and his coach must have figured out a unique way to make best use of the long legs he has.

which is exactly what i said, he has a very proportionate frame for his body and that helps

Powell could only finish fifth in the Olympic 100m final
Jamaica's Asafa Powell ran the second fastest 100m in history at the Athletissima Grand Prix on Tuesday.

Powell clocked 9.72 seconds to equal the old world record set by compatriot Usain Bolt in New York last May.

Bolt set the new record of 9.69 in winning the Olympic gold medal in Beijing last month.

The 26-year-old Powell, who held the world record between June 2005 and May 2008 with times of 9.77 and 9.74 seconds, finished fifth in Beijing.

On Monday, the 25-year-old Powell said Bolt's thrilling run at the Olympics has inspired him to target a time of 9.59.

"Two years ago I said to myself I could go 9.65 or faster but based on how Usain is running it's my aim now to go below 9.6," said Powell.

 Who knows? Maybe I'm not the guy for those big championships?

The 21-year-old Bolt stunned the sporting world two weeks ago when he knocked 0.05 seconds off Powell's previous mark despite easing up to celebrate before he crossed the line.

"I was shocked to see what he did in the race, it was ridiculous.

"I can't imagine the times he's capable of running at the moment. He's the man to beat right now but before it was me and if I can break another world record then I'll be the one back in the spotlight."

Powell, who also finished fifth at the 2004 Athens Olympics despite going into the Games as favourite, said he had not written off his hopes of winning an individual gold.

Why does Powell always produce his best outside of major championships?
"The 2012 London Games will be my last opportunity and Beijing was certainly my best chance but you never give up," he said.

"I've got no idea why I'm always winning on the circuit but then finishing fifth at the Olympics. Maybe if it was just a one-off race without the qualifying rounds I would have done better.

"Who knows? Maybe I'm not the guy for those big championships but just the guy to compete in the Grand Prix and Golden League meetings. It's just unfortunate."
