Mumbai: Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and fast bowler Zaheer Khan marked their return in the Indian One-day International squad for the five-match series against Sri Lanka beginning on August 18.


The selectors on Thursday announced a 16-member squad for the ODIs, which didn't include fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who has been rested. Munaf Patel, however, was included, as was Under-19 World Cup winning captain Virat Kohli.


Batsman Robin Uthappa, who struggled in the recent One-dayers during the Kitply Cup as well as the Asia Cup, was axed.


Harbhajan, who was banned for five One-day Internationals for slapping S Sreesanth during the Indian Premier League, was an automatic choice for selection, which meant leg-spinner Piyush Chawla's name was struck off.


The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also named a 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy, with Ishant returning to replace Munaf Patel and Parthiv Patel being dropped.

Why is Srivatsa Goswami not in this team? He could keep and thus keep Dhoni fresh. And Dhoni can bowl just as well as Munaf Patel in ODs.

They need to give Y Pathan enuff chances before discarding him.

Now if kohli fails they may bring him back for a match or two and drop him again or worse still try out somebody new on a whim.

Actually I agree to that.  Yusuf Pathan should gotten another series. They got the wrong Pathan into the team.  Irfan Pathan was carrying an injury recently and on these falt tracks is and will be teared apart.  So with already 4 seamers in the team not counting IP another allround option Yusuf Pathan would have been a better choice.  This way you would have given him another series and could have been a morale booster as opposed to being discarded after a few games and lose whatever confidence you got.

He is 28 now should have played at 26 ahead of Raina, Uttappa, Gambhir(debatable), Rohit, Tiwary and now Kohli.

Dhoni like a dumb idiot will play 7 batsmen and then IP at 8 !!!! IP as one of the 4 bowlers is the worst decision that can ever be made !!!! Imagine a pacer lineup of IP, MP, and PK - this is comparable to slow cycle race

This is really really unfortunate... the kid has strokes, temparament, can bowl, can field .. I was really shocked and disappointed that he did not get support from MSD when he played for CSK in IPL. Hope this guy plays for India at least once.. and demonstrates his worth.
