Fall of the legends?!?!---PART II
« on: March 19, 2006, 06:18:18 PM »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/4823104.stm

{{Are we seeing the end of two modern day legends, Tendulkar and Lara? Watching Sachin struggle for 21 deliveries to score 1 run and watching Lara struggle against Bond the other day, is EXTREMELY painful. We have grown up watching these two greats, they inspired us and they filled our days with joy.......
Can Gods be merciful and bless us....to watch these two firing away into sunset instead of fading away into darkness......God, Give us a couple of years more of these legends!!......:(:(}}

Fineleg,
I have to disagree with you on that we shud drop SRT and play VVS. IMHO, that would be a very very (place any adjective which borders on stupidity)move. As of now, last 10 tests, theres nothing really significant that seperates them. Theres nothing which asks for inclusion of VVS over SRT. Moreover, dropping SRT from test team might influence his batting in one days too. I hope GC/RD dont do this.

On current form, Kaif is a better option than either SRT or VVS. If we play 6 batsmen, it will be a toss up between VVS and SRT.

jfk, next test is over 45 days away ... and in totally different conditions ... a lot can change and will change between then and now ... no point looking too far ahead.

Agreed. Even though Kaif is fidgety in the middle out there, I would take him now instead of SRT/VVS. What other option do we have? Stuck between rock and the hard place.

May be we can see both Lara and Tendulkar, doing a Lord of the Dance, in the Windies tour later this year

gc has been tomtoming the name of raina. he seemed sort of a mature batsmen, and batted with no hiccups and hestitations. should we give him a run in tests as our coach has been asking?

Raina is young. I think he should be persisted with in ODIs, may be after WC'07, we can push him to test cricket. As our one day team is pretty stable, I dont think its a good idea to tinker with it. If Raina is pushed into the test team for WI and SA tours, then it might influence his performance in ODIs too, positive or negative. And also theres no way we can drop SRT or YS or VS to accomodate him as these three are the core of our ODI team, so dropping them from test team might result in a disaster to both the players and the team.

Seeing SRT's struggle in the first innings was surreal. I had started watching cricket after hearing about this kid who had stolen the hearts of most Indians. My grandmother who didnt know a single thing about cricket could easily recognize him and adored him. Everything about him was praiseworthy.
And God, please prove me wrong. But I feel he is not even a shadow of his former self now. On current form, he doesnt deserve to be in the test team. Let the Rainas, Kaifs and whoever have a go.
