Maharathi strikes back!
« on: June 09, 2008, 11:54:37 AM »
This one in the Chicago league  ;D  ;D

After an incredibly average start to the season where CP's team lost 4 straight games with CP scoring in single digits in 3 of them, CP's team has now won 2 in a row. They beat one of the better teams yesterday in 90 degree heat with CP high scoring with 62 (68) with 4 fours. Their team made a season high 191 in 30 overs and crushed the opposition by 60 runs!

CP, who opened the innings started very watchfully. They only had 10 on the board after 4 overs as the ball was swinging in the early morning. But they opened up after the 4th over and started looking to go over the top.

CP picked one length delivery and hit it over the head of midoff for a couple and it was game on. Despite playing the sheet anchor role and allowing others to play cameo's around him (there were 3 others who scored between 20 and 40) CP maintained a healthy SR. He ran hard between the wickets and the run rate once it reached 6 in the 10th over was never allowed to come down.

CP hit 4 incredible fours (all on the leg side) as he picked the fence between squareleg and long on.

CP finally gave up his wicket when he saw that he was tired in the 25th over and was no longer able to get any energy in his shots.

The maharathi has pulled his team back in the playoff hunt!

This is unbelievable!!! 4 fours in 62 runs. That means you actually ran 46 runs? Going by your size, this is unbelievable.

dude not only that. I was the 6th wicket to fall at the score of 155. We had about 10 wides that we got ... plus about 5 more wides that the keeper missed that we ran for. So not only did I run my runs I also ran my partners.

And my size aint that bad :) .... still under 155 pounds :)

Dude I wanted you to come to this game. This was in a new park in Bolingbrook. Beautiful ground.

Unfortunately I am leaving for India on Wed. Poor timing. I will miss the next three games. Now you have to wait until the first week in July to watch our game. I had PMed you a couple of weeks ago remember about coming over?

Well, I guess I missed out on a good show then. No problemo, we shall do it after you get back from India.

Better opportunity for me to see how you do after the break (whether you have regained form and fitness)  ::Whip::

Now did the maharathi preserve his spot in the side by shutting out a 15 year old from the league?  ;D

Hmm looks like the secret is out. We have a 16 year old fast bowler who has not gotten a chance to play at all this year. :) Instead there is an 18 year old who has played quite a few games.

I also am the selector for our team so its been easy to select myself despite the poor performances in the early games.

And no my name isnt shah or More ;)

The first article (I was unable to open it earlier) is very interesting.

From the link above.

Quote
The saga of the Midwest Cricket Conference’s suspension of six players rumbles on with an announcement that it required the players to email the “management” expressing “unequivocal remorse” and giving an assurance that they will “not in future, violate any of the Rules and Regulations of the MCC”.

The six have been accused of playing for a rival Chicago league in a regional competition in May.

They were allowed to play in last weekend’s matches “in the spirit of getting on with game” but critics of the board’s action have been quick to point out that the regulations that were allegedly breached were only published on the eve of the competition.

Referring to the case of 15-year-old Abhijit Joshi, who last month represented the USA at the Clico International Under-15 event in the Caribbean, one local cricketer told Cricinfo that it was “preposterous and arrogant” to expect someone so young to give the statement expected by the MCC.

Now this MCC league is the bigger league in the Chicago area and they have a travelling schedule where the teams travel all over the midwest (Columbus, Madison, Peoria, Milwaukee etc). The rival league is ofcourse our league. The MCC plays 40 over tournaments and play with the red ball. Our league plays 30 over games and we play with the white ball. I think the level of cricket is slightly better in the MCC league.

Though it is indeed our league that is affiliated with the USACA. We have had a couple of our players selected to play for the US national team this year.

This rule that they claim was just added is infact an old rule of the MCC league (it is our league that just added it this year). No player who plays in the MCC may play in any competing league.

2 years ago there was a player who played for the MCC (someone named Ram Singh ...  a sardarji). We had a game against a rival team and they convinced Ram Singh to play against us. This guy opened the innings and scored an 80 odd against us and single handedly won the game for them. I did some research and found the MCC league rule. I called their captain and threatened to inform the MCC. (Our league had no rule against players from a different league playing ... though they had to be on the roster).

The guy apologized and I let it go (since we had already lost ... what was the point).

Quite like the 83 Kapil great innings. No video footage exists. :(

I have been too busy (I was moving) and am leaving for India tomorrow .... so just have been showing up at the games.

I think I will take the video camera to the park after I come back from India. Infact if Kban keeps his promise of coming to our game he can shoot some film for me :)

He can then identify similarities in my cover drive (that does not let the bat hit the ball) and Ganguly's :)
