Anyone covering the Euro?
« on: June 07, 2008, 06:52:52 AM »
Hi! Can someone volunteer to cover the Euro Cup football? Won't be a bad idea in this lean period.  :)

agree with fever .. dont count romania out ... they are very strong in defence and have the players who can create that single moment of brilliance to score ....the dutch would be particularly vulnerable to that kind of play

kic..really? aside from Mutu, who have they got? as i said, havent been able to follow all the matches so i'm abit clueless on the smaller teams..any info would be good..(also, anyone want to give me some sneaky tips for this fantasy league i'm in, trying to desperately catch up)

current line up is:

                                    Cech
                         Ramos  Grygera  Lahm
                 Sneijder  Fabregas  Kallstrom  Quaresma
                           Del Piero Olic Podolski
Sub:
Mellberg

any suggestions or changes?

Mutu, Chivu, Contra are all world class... but romania always have a surprise package or two (this year it could be Gabriel Tamas or Razvan Rat) -- if, that is, they dont get sent-off for bad behaviour, and they always display great team game and a street-smart tactical approach, unlike the naivette of say many african nations in the WC and russia in recent years including the other day against spain...

Exactly, I am not talking about known stars ...but they are well organised and can hurt bigger teams. You dont top a group that had Holland without having some quality.

Excellent match yesterday ...great tactical play from Croatia after getting the lead ...they really frustrated the Germans, leading to the red card as well as all those other yellow cards

Germany should still go through, I think ..they have a match against Austria coming up, which should not be much of an issue at least 9 times out of 10

Lets see if Poland can complicate matters by beating Croatia as well as Austria

You are already getting Live as well as delayed telecast in ESPN2. Sadly live telecast is during the working hours so not much useful for me :(

what a demolition!!

and for a while in the first half it did look as if the french have got their act together and the dutch were just about able to hold on

but they totally blew the french away in the second half

romania now have a tough ask on their hands ...but if they can keep the dutch from scoring, i still think one can score against them ... but that if is a very big if, isnt it?

Admittedly it happened in the qualifiers, but the Draculas are the only team to have beaten the dutch in recent times [i believe it was a 3-0 drubbing].

Not that easy. Historical rivalries apart, both teams bank on physicality, and though the germans are technically and tactically superior, in such crunch games, with home support, who knows what the Austrians can come up with. We know already that the krauts can be rattled when pressed higher up in their half.

Germans may not steamroll anyone this time. The big steam rollers are Holland and Portugal. No, England is not playing since they did not qualify along with their cousins from Scotland. (So, why worry if India does not qualify for Hockey at the Olympics when England does not qualify for the Euro, let alone for the World Cup, the qualification of which is still do be decided). But, watch out for Holland.. they are in an incredible form.

Let's first wait and see if either the Eyetalians or the Krauts are breathing at the end of the group stage. This is one Euro that is making new reputations for some while severely denting many old ones.

agreed it wont be a walk in the park ...but, you would still back Germany on the big stage ...anyway, if they cant beat Austria, then they dont deserve to be in the quarters

yup ... and that will keep both italy & france on tenterhooks ... esp given the fact that the dutch may do what portugal did y'day and rest a whole lot of players

i would like to see romania go through ...frankly, both france & italy are boring to watch barring the odd match

Spain has been the biggest underperformer on the big occasion, to my mind .. and they just barely beat another underperformer ... i think any of the other teams would love to have spain as an opponent in the knock out stages of the tournament
