What a game!!

RR take a bow.

I was supporting RR, though I really liked CSK as well.
But as the last over was being bowled, I realized, I was egging on an Aussie and a Pakistani to put it past an Indian bowler!

IPL rocks!!

great win for RR - they deserved it. I feel sad for Balaji - nobody could have defended 8 in the final over.

Well, I am out of the loop here ... totally unaware of what was going on. I checked the scoreboard and found that PP was listed the keeper. Has this been the same way throughout the tournament ... if so how has he kept?

To quote you ofcourse I am being super-facetious.

But still I think he should not have used Balaji for more than 2 overs as he was not at all effective.

He could have tried some like Badrinath in the middle overs so that he had more options towards the end.

There was a time when RR were uptight around the 11-12th over.

Anyway RR are the best team as they showed and am glad they won. :)

Bowling Balaji in the last over (especially based on his form in the semi-finals and in this finals) was not good strategy. Under-utilizing Badri also shows up in this game.

It is not clear that avoiding these two moves would have definitely mattered -- but my point is, when Dhoni's gambles paid off earlier some people were over the moon with saying he has an uncanny knack, intuitive read of the game yada yada, when it was mainly the luck of the draw. To his credit, Dhoni always behaved as if it were positive thinking and  fortuitous results, than imply it was the result of some great insight.

As long as Dhoni does not allow the pressure to get to his play and productive returns, he deserves to continue to be the captain and get a long run.

I do not know what Blwe thinks of YP after today's game.

He did make a difference to the fortunes of the RR team for sure.
Great hands-eye coordination........reminded me of another of his earlier state mate Atul Bedade. Poor Atul must have played his cricket in the wrong age.
Also Shahid Afridi in his prime was like Yusuf Pathan.
I hope and wish, YP can carry on playing just the way, he is playing now.

mmm .. i agree ... he needs to prove himself at international level ... altho this opens up the question as to what qualifies as international level ... i envision a future not too far off where 50 over cricket will be extinct ... t20 will be in this format - clubs - and international cricket will be restricted to test cricket.

so where will yusuf fit in all this in the indian scheme of things ?

BTW, I can think of 2 other instances where other captains exhibited this malaise and suffered the consequences - SG's over-reliance on Hafeez's batting ahead of promising local talent like Saha and VVS' use of Symonds in that fatal final over against RR when he was clearly having a bad day. I am sure there are other instances.
One thing the RR's success and KKR/DC/BRC's (and CSK in the final) non-success showed is that one ignores local talent at their own peril. I think the franchises will dig deep into the local talent pool next year.

Also, Dhoni (and CSK) knew all along that their bowling was thin.. he should have developed/tested this aspect of SB/Raina (the regulars) during the league phase by giving them opportunities..so that he could go to them, if needed, at crunch time.
--
BTW, the opposite scenario played out in Mumbai.. making HS a captain ahead of SP was again a decision influenced by non-cricketing reasons.

I disagree with your comparison of YP with a younger Afridi. The 2 sixes he hit of MM and couple of other 4s were classical shots.

In the spectrum of current fast scorers .. I would put a Marsh on one extreme (say left) - classical, orthodox, technically correct shots with more timing than reliance on power ...and an Afridi on another extreme (say right) - blindly swinging at everything and relying more on power than timing/technique. In this spectrum I would put yuvi left of center, Yusuf Pathan right of center and current-day Viru slightly right of Yusuf.
