RR openers scored 64 runs (total), DD openers scored only 14. There is the difference between the two teams.

Who was talking about loss of momentum etc for RR?

You DD guys suck .. we MI guys should have been in the semis .. would have given everyone another classic .. and this time without choking in the end.

This is what happens when a team like DD goes to semifinal because of washout.  It brings down the standard of the tournament.

But, do not forget that because of the washout back in 1992 world cup, Pakistan made it to the second round. Otherwise, they would have been thrashed by England (who may not have needed to lose any wicke to score those handful of runs that Pakistan scored). We all know what happened later.

In any case, I am very happy for RR since I have believed in them for the last 6 weeks.

Remember, their 2 games were affected by rain. One game they lost to KXIP, the other with KKR was abandoned.

Besides that, DD won as many games as MI and lost 1 less. So, statistically they justify their spot. MI has been lifted by SJ and SP, DD were carried by GG and GM. Both teams had about the same talent. So you can't say that DD brought down the standard of the tournament. DD were simply overawed by chasing 190+. The kind of form GS, SQ, YP, SW are in 190+ was an expected score.

It is open secret now , that For DD to chase that kind of score , GG or VS has to fire.
After watching the very first match , I had made statement that either GG or VS should drop at no3 and one of non consequential players (Like RR promoted Swapnail A, should get to charge.

I am glad they lost of huge margin and not by 30 runs . To me Losing by 25 -30 runs is like playing ofr self with a determination to lose. When you chase competetively, either you get very close or stay very far. That is fine.

The game with Mohali was not washed out - they lost by DL method - I don't know why that is being brought up.  I am talking about games being washed out and getting a point for nothing.  MI should have made it to the semis.

Missed the match. DD did not deserve to be in the semis so a fair result. Very happy for Royals!!!

Interestingly the fluke scorer's team was beaten the fluke team :-)

DD started that with a 11 run run-rate, at the end of 8th over, for loss of 1 wkt, VS was still out there. Then game stopped. Then at end of 11th over it was 118. 3 wkts were down because of some blind hitting. The point here is that at the first rain break, DD didn't know that match will be rain curtailed.

When the match resumed, Punjab were tied to the D/L score at the end of 5th over after losing 3 wkts. The point here is that Punjab knew their target and could achieve that knowing that the have 10 wkts to lose in less overs.

So, while a game not happening at all due to rain give both teams 50% chance of winning, a game curtailed by rain in the middle of first inning gives advantage to the team batting 2nd.

DD lost within the laws of the game. you can argue the fairness of such laws but as they stand (and they are applicable to both teams) they lost.

next we might see you questioning the toss, unfair as it can be in certain circumstances.

incidentally the match was in delhi and they should have foreseen the circumtances (weather and all) atleast better than punjab. poor excuse.

In any case the DL does adjust for sudden stoppages and curtailment in play. Delhi lost their head on resumption and lost too many wickets. Hardly bad luck. Given the way Punjab were going when play stopped during their innings, they would have been unlucky to lose. Veeru made a big error there. When Punjab lost 3 quick wickets upfront, he just wanted to get 5 overs out of the way to get a match - and brought himself on, which was a big mistake as it handed the momentum back to Punjab and helped the new batsmen to settle down. When you know that rain may not even allow 11 overs to be completed and you have the batting side on the run, you should ideally keep your part timers away till the end and squeeze them - try to take as many wickets as possible so that the DL equation remains in your favour. Had Veeru held himself back, as it turned out, he wouldn't have had to bowl at all!

I am not saying that the DL is always fair, but here it was stupid captaincy that lost them the match rather than bad luck.

I think DD deserved to be in the semis . Yesterday was just a one of . The whole team seemingly panicked . It happens when you are chasing a big score or a individual plays a very special innings like what happened to us in the 1st match or that dark day for us when we were bowled out for 54 in Sharjah after being shell-shocked by Jayasuriya. I think DD should be proud of having reached atleast the semis.

Yes sir, DD lost fairly within the rules, to KXIP. No argument on that. What I am saying is that because the game was affected in the first inning, it affected DD's batting and they lost the game because of that IMO. I felt they were going great guns, scoring at 11+ RPO before first rain break and would have scored 200, which would have been difficult for KXIP to overcome. So, I thought DD deserved a place in Semis.

I have no questions on toss or things like that. I was only talking about the rain break effect, not even it's fairness or otherwise.

Frankly, I suspect that they have not yet perfected the D/L system for T-20. For one, I think/suspect they are applying the ODI curves..because not enough T20s have been played yet.

The rain curtailed thing is a bigger lottery in T20, imo

They have had many such one-offs........the Kolkata one, they will not forget in a hurry. :D
Although, Kolkata too will remember the 67 against Mumbai for quite a few editions.
