Great to hear the Coach!
« on: April 19, 2008, 07:55:26 PM »
Was pleasantly surprised to hear the coach in commentary and at the toss at the Mohali match. Inspite of what you hear from the gangulians he was very articulate and did not mention Ganguly even once!

It was great to see that famous scowl again :)

Yes - I agree - it was great indeed - I feel much relieved as it helped clear my bowels.

There is no harm in appreciating what is good....I heard him too, although in short stints (one of them was where he was joking with Aamir Sohail about the one Pepsi etc.). It was good to hear the confident, knowlegeble voice of a batting legend-

This must be true then, of all others commentating on the IPL or are they all doing it for charity and only Chappell is doing this for a few bucks

Indeed, indeed everyone makes their bucks. The problem is, only designated Gods are termed as "smart Businessmen" while the others "will do anything for a few bucks"...

Talking about the dude's history. Could care less how decent of a commentator he is given teh damage he did to the Indian team (and apparently a lot of players agree with me too). Hitler's (and no, im not comparing hitler and gc) literary talent is quite brilliant but we don't remember him for that, do we? I know you consider GC's absurd attempts to connect e=mc2 using blurry images from the 60s the stuff of business genius, but I beg to differ.

This thread was about Chappell the commentator in IPL. People were accusing him for doing anything to make money. I just pointed out that everyone else was commentating and making money in this IPL tournament. I cant understand how your comments are relevant to whats being discussed

He wanted to ensure that we retrace the evolutionary process forward with strong foundation - nothing wrong with that.

I have not visited his web site even ONCE. I had mentioned on some other thread that some of his ideas such as the ones on team building, lateral thinking etc. have been tried by other cricket coaches earlier and even in the corporate world with some success.

Based on the above, Dextrous has drawn his own conclusions to suit his own ends.

i thought the comment about doing anything to make money was about the likelihood of getting GC, MBE to coach even a club team for some easy money?  :icon_scratch:

My God - I am going to miss that - it was real comedy stuff.  May be it was put together to get the job in India and impress BCCI nincompoops.  Now it lost it's meaning since he already made connection with Lalit Modi, ensuring always some opportunities to earn a few bucks.

Seems to have worked similar to those 'lottery' sites / job sites seeking one to send money into specific accounts etc.,

I thought Chappells ideas were known to all thru his extensive interviews and also to those who were following the team thru his tenure.

whose  coach? your chicago league? i think you might get a bargain...he might be available for a few thou dollars pm to coach your league
Right - he will do anything for a few bucks.
This must be true then, of all others commentating on the IPL or are they all doing it for charity and only Chappell is doing this for a few bucks
I think IPL is the biggest charity event ever hosted in india ;D
Indeed, indeed everyone makes their bucks. The problem is, only designated Gods are termed as "smart Businessmen" while the others "will do anything for a few bucks"...

yes, when that involves playing with a national team...
Which national team is playing in the IPL?

Talking about the dude's history. Could care less how decent of a commentator he is given teh damage he did to the Indian team (and apparently a lot of players agree with me too). Hitler's (and no, im not comparing hitler and gc) literary talent is quite brilliant but we don't remember him for that, do we? I know you consider GC's absurd attempts to connect e=mc2 using blurry images from the 60s the stuff of business genius, but I beg to differ.
C&B - I sincerely hope that it's not true that you find genious in all the delusional stupidity in his website.

I did not...you specifically said in another thread that GC's ideas are good and can be extended to business. this is the first time im hearing that you haven't visited his website...in which case your previous assertions about his ideas cannot hold.
I thought Chappells ideas were known to all thru his extensive interviews and also to those who were following the team thru his tenure.
I am surprised that you attribute team building, lateral thinking to GC.  Are you not aware of the thact that business across the globe do that already?  Tell me one original idea that GC came up other than the moronic application of physics and emotions to cricket in his website.  Nobody is saying that he is not knowledgeable about cricket.  He is and he is a great batsman and OK in commentory.  As Bobby Simpson he was not a good skipper or a coach. He is not and we have seen that he messed up every team that he touched.  So I see no point in holding on to him just because he gave hard time to a cricketer that you don't like.

who's coach is he?  ::cheers:: ::cheers::
He is the personification of a coach ....
that gives the team a ride into hell.

All aboard the Hogwash express - You will be taken on a ride of your life in the special MBE class coach!
Good one!!!

I credit him for lateral thinking ... his website/interviews/stuff on these threads are testimony to that. Unfortunately, there are generally many more ways of doing something wrong than doing the same thing right.

He drops an underperforming Ganguly (ages ago, might I add) and now he is the demon spawn, with each move of his being criticised and brought to our attention.

Pathetic! Let the man live his life!

perhaps you ought to back up your assertion about the underperforming bit -- other than one series where he managed a pathetic average of 9, in all the series prior to that (going back almost 2 years), the guy averaged close to 50 on a cumulative basis (minnow adjusted). look it up, might put your statement in a different light.

Not that I am in favor of unreasonable greg bashing, but I think the anger at the coach is not because he dropped sg, but based on how he dropped, and what he did to keep one person out by hook or crook in addition to the other stuff  he did with the team.

I understand this is a more subtle and nuanced argument than just the simplistic assertion that people dont like greg because he dropped an "underperforming" ganguly, but it might help to gain a better perspective than bold pronouncements, rather unsubstantiated in facts.

first and foremost. was it his job to drop SG? this fact readily agreed to by you and all is probably a good reason to loathe a person who went out of his remit in more ways than not to marginalise SG.

PS i dont loathe him for dropping SG.

what do you think about his slanderous email, sneaky SMSs and other such shady dealings? i ridicule him for that - he sunk to abysmal depths as a human being all the while wanting others to be "good human beings".

i think what is pathetic is people overlooking all these traits and making him a hero.

i am happy to hear some one doing commentary in english being articulate in the language and imo, that is what he should have chosen as his post-cricket job.
