It is technically not Rakhi (as in what is tied by sisters on the wrists of their brothers).. but more like the sacred thread (as Blwe mentioned) that you tie ..typically after puja.

ah, i missed blwe's post.

how can one wear it forever? don't they get soaked in water etc.?

another thing i cannot understand is how these cricketers, esp. bowlers wear so many thick chains with even thicker pendants! won't it be annoying when running in to bowl? i am an anti-jewellery person in general.

yeah...they lose the colour and the sheen...........and look clumsy at best...but one dare not take it off............until replaced by a brand new one.
You see...the more we age( or when we have more at stake) the more spiritual we become. In our younger days..we wouldn't have given a damn. :)

for me, it is quite the opposite. i was spiritual, temple-going etc. when i was young coz i was told to be so by my parents - i ahve only headed more and more in the other direction as i have gotten older and don't see myself going back.

hmm.. imo, how spiritual one becomes or is.. depends on one's life experiences/events and associated thought processes ...books, ceremonies and rituals notwithstanding.

Lucky to get starts: Pomersbach

Luke Pomersbach wasn’t too sure if he would be able to make it to the playing XI when picked up by Mohali, given the presence of many quality batsmen in the side. Nevertheless, he was too excited to be a part of the IPL, so much so that he was reported as saying that given a chance, he would play for free in the league.

Quite clearly, the Western Australian was desperate to make a mark in the IPL and the wait, as Sangakkara said, made the resolve stronger. “Luke and Shaun didn’t get a look-in at the start, but that wait for a chance to perform seems to have made them hungrier for success,” said Sangakkara.

Luke has indeed looked very hungry to perform. The sturdy hard-hitting lefthander has hasn’t been dismissed in the three matches he has played. More significantly, each of his knocks had been crucial from the team’s perspective, for he has either seen his side romp home or has, like in the last game, pushed it to an impregnable position with his powerful strokes.

But ask him to throw some light on his batting and his success, the left-hander, very much like his compatriot Shaun Marsh, goes on the back foot, reluctantly offering something as simple as this. “Well, I am really happy to get a chance to play in the IPL and have just been lucky to get starts,” he said. On being prodded a little further, lefthander offers, " Shaun has been batting so well at the other end. The confidence automatically rubs off on you as well and you also get going.”

Apart from being close friends and team-mates for the Western Warriors, the duo were suspended for a month in November 2007, for breaching team rules regarding the consumption of alcohol, ahead of a Pura Cup encounter.  But he came through this difficult period, amassing 743 runs off the 8 matches he played. Shaun wasn’t far behind, scoring 706 runs off 8 matches. Pomersbach’s efforts with the bat did not go unnoticed with the national selectors as he was a part of a shock car park call up for the Twenty20 International against India in February.

Kumar Sangakkara is discerning enough to see and appreciate his talent and articulate enough to explain it as well. "The best thing about him and Shaun is the simplicity with which they approach their batting. There is very little that could go wrong in their game because their technique is so simple and basic, and there lies the beauty of their game," said the Sri Lankan.

Besides his powerful hitting, Pomersbach has shown unflappable temperament in trying circumstances. He was just wonderful along with Jayawardene in their chase against Delhi, and was again up to the task when Mumbai tried to spring a surprise by including two off spinners in the side on Wednesday.

“Luke is not all about brawn. He is indeed a superb striker of the ball, but he also has the technique and temperament to back it up with,” said Moody in Mumbai the other day.

And that perhaps explains his success.

Great sport!......that is Preity Zinta.......................even when KKR's Gul and SG clobbered her own team unexpectedly, she didn't miss to appreciate those and in the end she was one of the first ones to go and congratulate Ganguly. :notworthy:

Kings XI confident of beating Super Kings: Yuvraj

Mumbai: Despite losing both their previous IPL matches to Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab were going into tomorrow's semi finals against the same opposition with a measure of confidence, team captain Yuvraj Singh and coach Tom Moody said today.

"It's a different ground (Wankhede Stadium) and circumstances are different. We are coming into the game with greater confidence and will be looking to do our best with ball, bat and on the field," the lanky Australia-born Moody said.

Yuvraj said the team had learnt valuable lessons from their losses to Chennai at home and in the latter's backyard (Chidambaram Stadium) and were keen not to commit the same mistakes.

"We will try not to make the same errors again and will see where the opposition falters and try and take advantage," the stylish left-handed batsman said.

"Our confidence is high with the way we are playing and if we execute our plans properly tomorrow, no doubt we can win," the King's XI skipper said.

About his own form with the bat, Yuvraj said the good run he had in their last game would stand him in good stead.

"I had some good form in the last game. It has come at the right time ahead of the semi finals," he said referring to his knock of 49 in 16 balls.

Yuvraj Singh backed his bowling attack by saying it had performed well barring the odd game.

"Our bowlers have bowled well. It's just that the wickets were flat. The attack might have faltered on one or two games, but our bowlers are doing a great job," Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj praised the batting of Shaun Marsh, who has accumulated nearly 600 runs in only ten games. "It's been great to watch him and he's an important member of the team. We hope he does well tomorrow also," he said about the Western Australian left-handed opener's superb show thus far.

Yuvraj also played down his earlier comments criticising the Mumbai crowd and said he was confident they would support his team in the semis.

"My comments have been blown out of proportion. I had only said (after the thrilling one-run win over Mumbai Indians team at this venue) that they should not criticize Indian players. The public here is good and I'm sure at least half of them will support us in our game".

Yuvraj sounded upbeat that many more youngsters would be working hard through domestic and international cricket to make it to the IPL.

"Lot of youngsters who could have come in had to go for international duty and I'm sure many would work harder to come in to the IPL next year," he explained.

Talking about the aspect of coaching in a T20 tournament, Moody said that it was not easy to improve the players' skills. "It's just about trying to get the players as close as possible to each other and getting them to play together. Most of the players have not even seen each other before and at times have seen them only on television. There's not enough time to up skills but you can only help with improving technique and innovation," the Kings XI coach said.

Moody said it was not proper to judge a coach's worth after only one year of IPL.

"It's not about the coach but about the players. It's just about creating the right environment about the players. You can't judge a coach in the first year of the IPL," he said, adding it would be ideal to do so after a couple of years.
