NEW DELHI, April 13: A jewel of Indian cricket for over a decade, the incomparable Rahul Dravid has become the second highest catch-taker behind Australia's Mark Waugh (181) in Test cricket on Sunday in Kanpur.
The former India skipper surpassed Stephen Fleming's tally of 171 when he caught South African tailender Paul Harris at first slip off Harbhajan Singh on day three of the third and final Test match at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The Bangalore icon player of IPL achieved this feat while playing 122nd Test of his career.
Now, the captain of IPL's Bangalore Royal Challenger would be eyeing to become the world number one as Mark Boucher and Stephen Fleming have hung their boots.
Last month, Rahul Dravid joined the elite 10,000-Test run club during the India-South Africa series opener Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The right-handed batsman was on 79 when he flicked Morne Morkel to complete a single that made him the sixth batsman, and the third Indian, to cross the 10,000-run barrier. He reached this milestone in his 120th Test match. During the same innings he also scored his 25th Test century.
Brian Lara (11953), Sachin Tendulkar (11782), Allan Border (11174), Steve Waugh (10927) and Sunil Gavaskar (10122) are the other members of the elite league.
