the whole act just feels like a bit of fixing in a way to me,i am all for home ground advantage and that is the beauty of cricket versus any other sport in the world that it can have different results depneding on the ground on whihc it is played. the sheer diversity therefore of the same game is mindblowing. i mean a basketball team willplay the same way in any country because the court is going to be the same. but not cricket. each country's pitch-type shows up another aspect of a team's game.

but i think that it jsut leaves a bad taste in the mouth that dhoni was so blatant in rewarding the curator. it feels that we cant win without underprepared pitches.

It is called playing to your advantage, maximizing profit. Such sadness and unhappiness at winning in advantageous circumstances? Why? Is spin any less of a bowling type?

bhai i agree with you thats what makes the game glorious

but the timing and the action is what is debatable

i mean at the end of every series if all the curators get some reward from the team irrespective of loss/win then its ok practice. but is dhoni saying that the ahmedabad curator was lesser than the kanpur guy in his eyes? then it think that goes against the grain of cricket itself. in fact we know that the pitch at the motera was made with ar more care

Hmmm ensuring that a Test finishes in 3 days in the home teams favour is worth Rs10,000 to the curator?
Nothing illegal may have taken place but it is not a practice that I am particularly enthused about.
As for tipping waiters and valet parking attendants as ravi points out, is fair play but not if there is a competition involved.
Why not tip the umpires for doing a good job after the game or is that not allowed? ???

We are all going by the reports... no one knows the truth...media links it to the pitch and the result.
It could be a purely helpful gesture... we do not know

But, yes, the timing has all gone awry... and the curator has had his share of the limelight both on and off the field

ICC 'pitch' notice to BCCI over Kanpur Test

INDIATIMES CRICKET

NEW DELHI, April 16: Green Park pitch seemed to be tailor-made for the Indian teams that suited the spinners and now it has come under International Cricket Council's scanner. ICC has sent notice to BCCI on Tuesday demanding an explanation regarding the issues raised by the match referee.

Roshan Mahanama , match referee in Kanpur Test, has stated in his post-match report about the sub-standard and unfit nature of the pitch.

After a Test match gets over, match referee sends a post-match report and if it carries any issues, ICC then write to the home board demanding an explanation for the same. It is the standard procedure which is followed.

"After every match, the match referee is supposed to rate the pitch and if his rating is that the pitch was sub-standard, then the ICC gets in touch with the Board, giving them 14 days to respond. If the Board fails to come up with a convincing reply, then the venue is reprimanded and as a last resort, it can even be banned from the international circuit. Once that happens then the Board can appeal against the decision again. That's the process," said ICC Manager - Media and Communications Brian Murgatroyd.

"For the moment, however, I am not going to comment on one particular venue. That's the process and that's how things will happen after a Test has been played at any venue. But if someone from the BCCI has told you that, then I am not going to disagree either."

Just two days into the Test, South African coach Mickey Arthur also said that he expected India to prepare such a track as they were trailing 0-1 in the series.

"There is always something happening on the wicket. It is behaving like a fifth day pitch on the second day. It played a little better than expected, but is not ideal for Test cricket," South Africa coach Mickey Arthur told reporters on the third day of the match.

Any reports on the fast and bouncy tracks of Australia or SA...any reports on the spongy bounce of the WI pitches of the last tour...anything on the lousy dust bowls in SL...

Mahanama can go and jump into the Bay of Bengal for all we care !!
