Marcus Trescothick has pulled out of Somerset's pre-season trip to the UAE because of his stress-related illness.
The opener, 32, has not played for England since August 2006 and left tours of India and Australia early.

He took the decision not to fly to Dubai for the 12-day trip shortly before his team-mates departed.

"He has returned home to Taunton to be with his family. We look forward to him playing a full part in our season," chief executive Richard Gould said.

The problem originally surfaced in India in February 2006 and although he returned to action that summer against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, he admitted after those series that he still did not feel right.

He sat out the Champions Trophy in India but declared himself ready for the Ashes series in Australia, only to pull out days before it began.

The left-hander enjoyed a successful season with Somerset in 2007, scoring 1,000 runs in a County Championship season for the first time as they won promotion to the top division.

But he said last December that he was in no rush to return to international duty.

"What I won't do is sacrifice my health to make it happen again. My life is more important than cricket," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
