Munaf --Before we get carried away
« on: March 13, 2006, 09:37:02 PM »
So first up I am incredibly happy that we have a toe crusher among us who can do so at pace etc etc.

Much has been written on this so far but a warning lights been flashing in my head that we maybe getting carried away a bit. He has played ONE test and lest we forget we have had fast toe crushers before

Zaheer when he came on the scene was considered the same. I remember reading Prem's match report comments from that ICC game where he was using very similar words to praise Zaheer as he did for Munaf (Toe crushing yorkers, control , pace etc etc ). Agarkar was called Nippy. Nehra was the fastest of the lot (what 150kph in SA).

We know what happened there. So I would suggest tempering the enthusiasm a bit until we see him do it over a couple of series (if not a couple of years). Indian bowlers have this bad habit of dropping pace (They shed kph rather than pounds) as they get settled in the team and hopefully this wont happen to this fellow.

Zaheer was a talent that we lost due to team handling of his fitness, i would squarely lay the blame on ganguly for this. Nehra was never really in match fit on any occassion, so was balaji. Now if we groom this guy properly we would have a match winning toe crusher in our hands. It all depends on how the team is going to handle hi fitness going forward.

I agree it will be a while before the jury is out on M.Patel.  Nevertheless a good start in his first test and a great upward arrow potential wise to build on.

Care to explain why?

But none of them are as good as MP with old ball in tests. Isn't it?
