this is kind of mine mix, try lots of people ahve said the taste is different
pressure cook the tomatoes with the tuvar dal
make a paste of ginger, jeera, a bit of hing, pepper, a bit of elaichi, you can add a touch of garlic if you like - use an epistle and make it hand grind so it is a bit coarse
chop onions very fine
2-4 spoons of any (except coconut /mustard ) oil depending on what is the quantity
take the onions and cook till brown, add half a spoon of oil and then further cook the onions with the paste
in the meanwhile beat the tomatoes and the dal together till liquid
add it to the cooking onion-paste
stir it all around till boil
let it simmer on low flame
do a mustard and green chilli tadka in half a spoon of ghee
add to dal
throw kotmir on top
serve
