Even I enjoy watching THIS match. However, I did not enjoy gillespie hitting a double against bangladesh and NZ beating Bang in just an hour into the 3rd day.

I thought you would understand that I used SA and Bang (actually I used NZ and Bang) as EXAMPLES of a severe mis match in team strengths.

it is simply that given time bangaldesh will build ... we need to be patient with them .. cricket goes in circles ... teams go from the bottom to the top over periods of 20 years .. it all works in circles ...

I think next logical step should be to involve Bangladesh in IPL, have one player from BD in each team, I can bet the stadias will be all full if the matches are played in Bangladesh...they have got enormous apetite for cricket...

So, let's give test status to the likes of Kenya, bermuda, scotland, ireland et al and make sure that we play the same number of tests against them as we do against Australia.

Why not? Over 20-30 years, they will also improve and be part of the cricketing cycle. And we should give them the opportunity by playing more against them and making them a part of the ftp.

NO ! Introducing teams to test level is a totally different kettle of fish ! I have other views on that !

What I meant was more like ... look at the australian team today ... where was it in the 1980s ? bottom of the table ... but the west indies was on top ... now the west indies is at the bottom

several decades ago england was a strong team ... i meant these cycles .. maybe 40 years down the line bangladesh will be the next australia .. .that does not change the fact that i believe they werre given test status before they earned it.

And that is the reason why I want teams in the IPL to start out on even keel - by allowing most players to be freely transferable across regions. The local flavour will anyway come - it is in the interest of franchisees to get that done.

Otherwise we will have a scenario like an India - Aus - Zim triseries, with it being a foregone conclusion from the beginning that Ind and Aus will play in the finals.

I guess they key differences of opinion lie on the idea of how to go about creating teams. From this stems all other differences.

SAF's 158/8 .... Again Bucknor plays the devil, gives AB deVilliers  out to a ball which bounced twice before reaching the batsman  ???

Clearly Bucknor needs to be sent home.

Commentators were just reading from some rule book ...it is a no ball only if it bounces MORE THAN TWICE. So, umps got it right there.

SA 164/9... Hope Bangladesh takes lead and sets a target of more than 220.That would be an interesting chase with the ball keeping low.

Bucknor did not disappoint - gave someone (I think it was rafique) lbw off a thick inside edge yesterday.

Btw, what a pathetic pitch. Really, after you have seen the Aussie wickets, you feel like throttling some of these groundsmen.

I really don't mind the pitch..as long as Ban win it. NZ dished us the same stuff when we went there last time. For me "ends justify means"  ;D

de Villiers's bizarre dismissal

Cricinfo staff

February 23, 2008

After miscuing an attempted pull back to an equally surprised Mohammad Ashraful, de Villiers stood his ground, convinced that he wasn't out. Many in the visiting dressing room shared his confidence. But after taking his own sweet time over the decision, Steve Bucknor sent de Villiers towards the pavilion.

Bucknor has been in the news for the wrong reasons for a while now, but this time he was clearly in the right. Law 24, section 6 states that the umpire shall call a no-ball only if it bounce more than twice before reaching the popping crease. The shocker that Ashraful tossed up bounced only twice, making it a perfectly legal, though extremely bizarre, dismissal.

Graeme Smith, sitting with a few of his team-mates behind the boundary line, didn't hide his displeasure at the decision. de Villiers, who was batting on 46, began his walk back to the pavilion after having a word with the umpires.

Match evenly poised with BD leading by 147 with 6 wickets in hand. They need to add at least another 100 runs somehow.....
