I am rooting for Aus win .. even though I would have supported the underdog. We need SL to lose for us to make the finals ;D

Why is CI calling this as Gilchrist's last match? I thought he was retiring after this series.

Nevermind, they changed it to AG's WACA exit.

Thats good news for us.

remember we were doing well last time round before WACA threw us out of rythym and momentum just before the finals. I dont think we recovered from that match in the finals.

i think the australians are making a mistake by cancelling the tri-series. it used to seem too long because on most occasions, australia would be the clear favourites and through to the finals with the lesser teams vying with each other for a slot .. that used to make a lot of matches quite meaningless

however with the aussies losing a few players, the gap between them and other teams has narrowed ... and one could probably see a lot more close contests in future ... that would make something like a long drawn out triseries quite exciting .. compared to another bilateral ODI series.

they plan to have 2 "short" bi-lateral series each season

you mean for the crowds and television viewers??

yeah .. i guess that is the reason they want to have two separate series with aussies involved in each match .. makes sense from the economic perspective

i would still rather have a tri-series .. provided it is competitive .. actually, i considered this entire circus quite irritating till a few days back ... but on thinking about it, if we are to take the view that the Aussies are no longer as difficult to beat, it may not be such a bad idea after all

Well, you have to keep in mind that the participants have included teams like Zimbabwe, and England at their listless peaks.

Yup .. but england has always been listless at different points in time .. still competitive against most teams in most series .. for instance against India, other than that drubbing in India when RD was captain, India has rarely dominated any series against them home or away.

Zim, I agree, was always a weak team .. so, it would be Australia winning everythng and the second team winning everything against Zim and then Aussies whipping them in the finals ... the entire essence of a tri-series, with no one knowing which two teams could make it to the finals, was largely missing

I think unless we get teams such as bangladesh or zim playing now, here on, the tussle for the final spots will be a lot more competitive

i think he would have been dismissed soon after, had he got to his hundred before pup got out ... but now he may play a bit more responsibly
