GG's average against strong sides like SA and Aus is pretty low however if he can do half as well as he did today on a consistant basis then it augurs well for him and Indian cricket. He seems to have all the shots and plays spin very well which is a plus when you have to play the middle overs.

Agree. He has a poor record against Australia so far. A lot of his matches against SA were some years ago, but he hasnt really done too much against them in recent matches either.

However, he has done enough - both in the domestic circuit as well as now on the international stage - for the selectors to let Dhoni follow his instinct w.r.t. his batting. Now it is all up to him to build on this.

It may also be noted that while a 184 run stand was built, the fielders were SL and not AUS. One could see a big difference in their throwing abilities, aiming the stumps, chasing in big outfields etc. If the fielders were AUS with the same SL bowling attack (!) they would have stolen lesser runs and even perhaps would have lost wkts by runouts as well.
Thus IMO performance against SL may not be a yardstick to predict against AUS.

Of course SL is not Australia in terms of fielding ability - although the latter did drop the flukemeister twice as against once by the former. If I remember right, as long as GG was at the crease in the first match as well, he was running the runs quite well. The key is for them to figure out the strengths of individual fielders and adapt accordingly.

Thanks for welcoming, I was around only, but only watching ie reading and not posting. A bit on the low, since MSD was on low key till now. Now i had confirmed in mind that he will never be the initial arrogant (batting wise) MSD as i loved. And i returned back dejectedly to post things once again.
BTW, the newrathies MSD/GG had not thrown the wkts after scoring 50+ to give chance for those like RU, IP etc sitting in tent. They knew the difference between set batters and new commers. This is unlike in the era of maharathies where RDs and SGs used to be airy as soon as they reach 50+ ( mainly recent 2/3 yr stories). THIS NEEDS TO BE NOTED.
