jokes aside, given that he is being awarded the Ashok Chakra .. this would get coverage elsewhere.

I like this "letting her tell her story" approach .. it truly and sincerely captures the emotions, the grieving process, the courage needed to overcome such a grave tragedy and finally, the character & sense of purpose that drives those working in our armed forces despite all the odds.

Naahh.... I'm not saying that she or the army owes PP big time. She probably isn't looking for any publicity. Since her husband is getting the award, she will get some coverage (as WN said), but IMO that coverage would have focused primarily on the husband and his bravery. PP, on the other hand, has focused on the wife and her life after her husband's death. This kind of coverage might not have happened in other media outlets. That's why I said 'nice of PP to tell the tale of this lady'.

As I said, it was a nice article. But I bet there will not be much to write about the husband -- the army never releases details and so a flowery version of "he fought one the front lines and died" will be all we will hear. That is understandable. The human side of the story is attractive to the media. If you ever watch Olympics on TV in the USA, you will see many such "human" stories about the athletes.

Rediff would do well to make this a regular feature. There is no shortage of such martyrs in India. I suspect this lady, with her dancing and acting and play authoring was easier to write about than the regular widow. I would hate to think that is why her story is out there.
